BJ II, Activesync, and SBS2003

So, I totally had a hard time figuring out what to do in order to get my BJ II to sync up over the network with our Exchange Server (SBS2003 R2) and so once I actually got it to work, I wrote what I had done down so that maybe the next guy who is in my position can figure it out:

Getting your Samsung i617 (Blackjack II) to work with Microsoft SBS2003 over the Internet:

1. On your PC, in Internet Explorer (I know) remote into your company network, and go to Remote Web Workplace.

2. Double-Click on the lock icon in the bottom right-hand corner. This opens the Certificate.

3. Click Details, then Copy to File. Make it a DER encoded binary, and save it.

4. Send the certificate to your phone, and install it. (Just open it.)

5. Now, if you've been trying to get your phone to work, you know that we need to know what to put for the "domain" in the phone's Activesync... Still on the PC, Login to Remote Web Workplace and click configure your computer to use Outlook via the Internet. Scroll all the way to the bottom and the last step reads: "Open Outlook and type your Windows Small Business Server user name (in the format... Now write down or remember everything before the "\user name" For me, it was the name of my company, all one word. We are finished with the PC.

6. ON YOUR PHONE: Go to ActiveSync, menu, configure server.

7. Type in the address you use to get to Remote Web Workplace, check the SSL box, then hit next. (for me, it was www.mydomain.com) but yours might be something like "sbs.mydomain.com" or "rww.mydomain.com" or... Whatever. lol.

8. Put in your username/password, and then the domain. Remember: The domain is everything before the "\user name" that we gathered from step 5.

9. Make it sync.

10. After it finishes syncing, go to menu, and Schedule, and verify that it is set to get email "As items Arrive" This is a step not required to obtain email, but it is more of a step towards getting Push Mail working.

11. Don't let your meat loaf.

This is by no means a "fix-all" for Push mail, or activesync, or anything else Microsoft ever dreamed up. We, as techies, know that Microsoft can absolutely mangle even the simplest of ideas.

Feel free to throw in questions and comments here... I had a hard time just getting it to work like this, and from what I've read, many people have worse problems. Specifically in the Certificate portion. Some people have downloaded other certificates, or installed new certificates on their SBS'es, etc. etc. I just know that this works for me... And Direct Push is enabled by default on SBS2003 R2 Premium, so once I sync'ed up, Push worked too... And very quickly. I sent myself a test email and it was delivered to my phone in under 10 seconds.

If you guys find this even slightly correct/useful, I can take screenshots to make it easier to understand.
