Google Search from Today Screen...

As I like to do spur of the moment Google searches, I appreciate the concept of the Google Search bar add-on for the Home Screen. But, I don't like the default Windows Home Screen, to which, this Google Search Bar is added and, to me, ultimately limited.

Is it possible to "cut-n-paste" the appropriate script from the "Windows Default w/ Google Search" XML Home Screen file and place it in another 'Screen's XML file - Samsung Calendar or Pop-up, to be specific? It is suggested that the program will alter your current 'Screen but I've tried installing it to both of the above Samsung Screens and with each install it tells me that it "cannot be added to your current Home Screen layout," and that "a new layout 'Windows Default (w/ Google Search)' has been created."

Is there a way around this - while retaining my choice of Home Screen?

EDIT: I also tried adding it to the Samung Simple Screen, with the same--failed--results...

You have to copy the google.xml file and the homescreen you want to use to your computer. Actually, here's the code from the Google xml. Just copy and paste it into the home screen you want to use. (Important: Make a backup of your home screen you'll be copying to!!). Then copy it back to the phone and launch. I edited mine and it works great. Here's the code:

The xml files are in the Application\Home directory. Copy it for instance after your Calendar entries. Look for Calendar then the end of the plugin labeled like . Put your cursor to the right of the > then hit Enter. The paste the above and save.

If you know how to do all of this sorry, just thought it would be easier to explain.

Thanks for the info!

I got it to work in the Popup and Simple Home Screens - sort of. It looks/works OK in Simple, but it adds a blank MRU box at the bottom, sort of, which will cause the "cursor" to get stuck if you move it all the way to the bottom, oddly requiring twice as many pushes "Up" to move the cursor back up. It does equally weird stuff in Popup, and I couldn't get it to work at all in Calendar. I'm sure it's fixable; perhaps something with the box sizes? I'll try it again another time, but it's starting to get frustrating. :D

I've whipped up my own Home Screen using Madbeetle's software, and have added the Google search code to the XML.

It'd be cool if the Google bar remained at the bottom of my screen even when there are no All Day events, and Missed Calls. Of course, when there are none of these, the plugin "icons" (buttons, or whatever) disappear, as intended, but then the Google bar automatically moves itself "up" near the center of my screen.

(Are ya with me so far?)

Is it possible to add values for "x" and "y" to set the position of the Google search bar in a fixed location? If so, where exactly in the Google-plugin XML code would I put these values? Would it be something like: ?

And another XML Code related question:

Can I remove the text "No upcoming appointments." that is displayed, when I do not have appointments?

For the Missed Call plugin, all that is needed is to change: to: and it goes away when there are no calls. And, the same is true for All Day events: changed to: . So, is it just a manner of writing in similar code into the calendar plugin to get rid of "No upcoming appointments."? I tried duplicating the "noevent" format state and slipping it into a few lines of the calendar XML, but it didn't work.....any ideas? If not the XML, perhaps a Registry edit?
