Guest Paul (MVP) Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 Here's an interesting application I came across, that goes by the name of 'Trapster'. I must confess that i've not installed it as yet personally, but Trapster appears to be a community contributed database of Speed Traps that can be updated and used on your GPS equipped Windows Mobile device...How Trapsterâ„¢ Works and What Makes it Unique When you see a trap, report it by pressing a button on your phone, or calling a toll free number. Other user's phones will alert them as they approach the trap. Trapsterâ„¢ learns the credibility of traps based on how many users agree. It also learns the credibility of each user, over time.Click Here to watch a demo video of Trapsterâ„¢ (it works on many types of phones, Nokia is just one) So how does it work? Our goal is to make it so simple that you don't need to know. But in case you are interested, it combines technologies such as GPS and wireless location, voice transcription, geocoding, reverse geocoding, and SMS, with a central database server. It communicates in real time, using the Internet. You can find out more about the application and check out coverage at their home page, and check out the Windows Mobile instructions page for the client download. UK coverage seems to be somewhat limited at present (and most certainly inferior to my baby CamerAware, but i'd be interested to hear how well it works for people in the US (which seems to be the target market). Kudos to Trapster: Great name, great logo :D P
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 (edited) Good idea, but doesnt the PGPSW speed camera database (which our other favourite products also utilise ;-) ) reward users for letting them know about new speed camera locations? Plus the Govt has to publish locations anyway! /me sets mode to +Blondemoment! Edit: Just noticed the "US is target market" bit ! Edited April 9, 2008 by WearTheFoxHat
Guest ScrewlooseAZ Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Installed it on my Kaiser running 6.1 . It only seems to work over wifi for whatever reason. There is no way to change the data or GPS settings that I could find. They do have a search map which shows all cameras in your area, which is nice. I would like something similar for Camera Aware.
