Bit of a bargain this, over at Play.com :D

For the paltry sum of £23.74 DELIVERED, you can get yourself...

and from the Wayfinder site...

wfn7_semc_java_01.jpg

  • Easy-to-install online navigation system
  • Power search functionality to millions of addresses
  • Automatically updated 2D/3D maps and real-time traffic information
  • Rotating maps display and clear voice guidance in your language
  • Night modes
  • Guide to more than 20 million points-of-interest (POI) covering more than 1000 cities.
  • Weather, currency rates and public transportation schedules.
  • Access to MyWayfinder.com, a web-based tool for quick and user friendly pre-planning of journeys.
  • Seriously impressive! Wayfinder 7 seems to be the latest version and is compatible with a whole bunch of platforms (including WM SP / PPC)... more details are available on the Wayfinder product page. A free trial of the application is also available at the same page. The included GPS looks to be an excellent SiRF III unit.

Visit the product page here at Play, use the discount code 'experience08' to get the extra 5% discount off the listed £24.99 price, and buy via Quidco for 4% cashback!

FINALLY, I believe Wayfinder is an offboard navigation system, that is a data connection is required to receive routes / maps etc. This is good in that maps are updated at a central server and it saves space on your device, bad if you don't have flat rate data (or you are abroad!)

    Enjoy! :(

    P

PS Couldn't resist, bought one for myself!

PPS Yes, I know it's a Symbian screenshot, but I couldn't find a WinMo one on their site :(

Have you seen the comments on Play's website (user reviews)??

Play.com test these items first please!

It is a total con! free software yeah right! So far the only way to CONnect is via the phone to web this has cost me £6 on my Sony S500i no joy so I even tried a K800i and a further £5 and still no joy it keeps sending updating via exspensive texts a complete waste of money has left a vey bad taste in my mouth.

SO BE WARNED IF ON CONTRACT PHONE YOU COULD BE IN FOR A HEFTY BILL

DO NOT BE FOOLED THIS OFFER IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!

Used the software (attempted to anyways). Those data charges are gonna be horrendous..................................

Recieved this today and it paired with my K800i straight away, I have tried this with nav4all and even indoors the system found where we are.

I have yet to use wayfinder navigator but I am sure it will be just as good.

The only thing I don't like is the lack of a mains charger as this works when you out and about walking but can only be charged in car.

Overall 9/10 for the item

Not used the software.....

I had 2 RoyalTek GPS in the past and they were excellent.

If not the smallest / prettiest, they were well made and performed well.

Does it have a mini-usb port?

The Royaltek that is, not Mcwarre's undoubtedly comprehensive selection of women.

That said, a chick with a mini-usb port might be quite useful, but I digress.

Presumably also, you can use any mapping software you like with this, it's not tied to the Wayfinder package or anything?

It can be used with anything, will let you know when it arrives if it has miniUSB! (hopefully tomorrow? It's been shipped....)

BTW, Wayfinder demo won't find internal GPS on P750! :D

I bought this deal when it was £30 a few months ago (good 'ole HUKD) after misplacing my small globalsat 338.

The GPS receiver has an on off switch, comes with a car-charger (but no wall charger as stated) and a software cd. All ratting around in a box too large for it.

The receiver hasn't got a mini usb port, and has a sliding switch to turn it on and off.

I dont find it as quick to fix as my old globalsat but it appears as accurate in day to day average driving. I use it with Tom Tom on my Vario II.

Sliding switches are a big advantage in my book - leaving it "On" means you can discretely mount + wire it permanently into the car linked to the ignition and no fezzing around with cig lighters and curly wires etc.

Ouch! I am away with work and have only to drive 1,000 miles this week as well as do me job!

I think that I will have to get a Hayes manual to check the wiring for my car to do the install. I take it as it is SiRF III then you can 'hide' it as it doesn't need a window to pick up a satellite??

Well it's best seeing some sky if possible if only to get that initial fix. Fortunately my rear windows have a dark tint so my Holux GPS just fits nicely on the sill but can't be seen from outside.

My GPS is in the boot kinda under the back parcel shelf but with no chance of ever seeing the sky directly and it's absolutely fine!

I imagine this unit will work just fine wherever you put it.

PS Mick, mind out of the gutter please! :D

I was away in Belgium last week - not much fun being away is it?

Mind you, if you had a decent SatNav you'd probably only have to drive 500 miles :D

Me? With my reputation? Are you completely mad??? :D

Right two bone questions. I take it that there are no probs with car battery drainage?? You leave the receiver on full time??

Mine arrived Saturday!

GPS is decent, non miniUSB but definitely ripe for hard-wiring :D

Software is in the form of a scratch off foil licence code.

Has anyone got the software working? It installs but the maps are virtually impossible to download. Wayfinder have seriously shot themselves in the foot here. Muppets

Paul, did your software activate?

I've tried installing on an HTC Kaiser. The activation code won't work.

Wayfinder Customer support have been very helpful (as far as they can ......)

It appears these have been 'split packed'. Wayfinder sold them bundled with a Sony Ericcson P1i, so Wayfinder have told me thats why it won't activate, as the first activation must be on a P1i. (If its installed for others on different phones, is it OS rather than phone model dependant?)

I'd be fine if I had a P1i, and Wayfinder tell me once activated I'd then be able to move it to my Kaiser just fine ... it is just that the initial activation is limited by phone model.

I've called Play.com, who have said "tough", and in effect "even though we advertised it as compatible there is nothing we can do except offer a refund". I even suggested that as they sell P1i's (was it them who 'pack-split' them?), they might as a service to their customers activate the software and pass on the code to transfer them, as this would be one solution - which they have declined. IMHO, shabby behaviour to advertise something wrongly (they even made a point of saying "one year license worth £67.99") and to then wash their hands of their error.

Beyond that, any of the regulars here willing to install it with my details and my activation code, and I can then use the username and password to transfer it to my HTC?

Any info / help gratefully received.
