Can't App Unlock phone

hi guys, I am having a similar problem as someone who posted earlier... but I don't think a resolution was ever posted...

I have run the SurrealNetworksAppunlock.cab on the blackjack and the restarted it....but it still says I don't have permission to delete protected files (namely camera_shutter_1.snd, cv.exe, and medianet.exe) so that I can replace them with modified files....I have tried several different unlock apps and am still having this problem.... any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks!

Welcome to the site :D

Some files can not be changed even if you do application unlock the phone. I've not played with a blackjack myself and so can not say for sure if this is definately the case with what you are trying to do.

In reference to cv.exe, and medianet.exe, just replace them with the modified ones. Once you drag the new files over these, it'll ask if you would like to over write them with the newer files, Select yes and move on...

When I try to replace them, it tells me that I don't have permission to do that. When I try to delete them first, it tells me that I don't have permission to do that either....this is frustrating... I even turned off UAC and it still gives me these messages.

I believe I ran an secpolicies.cab file on my bj2 in addition to the appunlock which removes security policy restrictions.

secpolicies.cab

I tried total commander and had the same results as with windows explorer. How can this work for some people and not for others with the same device??!!

I noticed that even after an App Unlock I could NOTdelete/replace protected files from the Blackjack 2's File Explorer. When I connected from my PC to my blackjack 2 using USB/ActiveSync, I COULD delete the protected files (MediaNet.exe, camera_shutter*.snd, etc.)

Most of my efforts to do this have been through activesync on the PC, but I've had no luck.

After I installed Total Commander succesfully I got a message like 'it may not display properly because it

was designed for a previous version of Windows Mobile Software'. I assumed I had to app unlock the device first.

I removed Total Commader and then downloaded and installed

the Surreal Networks App Unlock cab (same link as in #1 in post #1 in the lostsouls thread,

directly from phones browser)

It said it installed the cab sucessfully, but the the same meassage appeared which was

'it may not display properly because it was designed for a previous Windows Mobile Software'.

I then reinstalled Total Commander and again "it may not display properly.....".

When i look in HKLM/Security/Policies/Policies, I see the 0000101b file.

When I open it I see a Value = 1 and Base = Decimal.

This is simialr to the info I see from the Surreal Networks site

for registry edit info (http://mobile.surrealnetworks.com/AppUnlockReg.htm)

Am i doing something wrong?

Is it unlocked even though I'm getting the messages above....

This message doesn't mean your phone isn't unlocked, it just means that the software was probably designed for windows mobile 5 instead of six. Most of the applications I have installed show this message, but run perfectly.

OK. I'm now going to try and modify some of the shortcut keys using the Fn + 'letter'.

I don't like the defaults for C (ATT Mall) and W (MediaNet).

Should there be an icon for the Surreal Networks UnlockApp in the Start menu?

No, App unlocking your phone isn't really a program, it just modifies some registry keys to give a lower security level so that you can edit files and install unsigned programs. Once, installed, you never have to worry about it again.

My problem is that for some reason Vista won't let me modify files labelled as read only system files in the BJ2, even though the phone is app unlocked. (which I need to do in order to modify the .exe files that medianet and CV buttons on the phone open.

To Modify Fn+letter keys, in the blackjack go to start- settings- key settings - Fn key settings - click show list (bottom right soft key) and then you can edit and add from there.

Hope this helps.

Not that stright forward from what I've read.

This text is form another thread here.

The default Key Settings program won't allow you to remap the first 6 keys defined in the shortcuts (B, C, H, M, V, W).

All of the key settings are in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Samsung\KeyRun\

Each key is under its own directory. You can change the AppPath, AppTitle, and Argument.

The 6 predefined keys are in a file called "PreDefined"

If you simply remove the letters you wish to reassign, you'll be able to edit them in the settings screen. Also note that you can remove any number of the letters, and the ones remaining will still be set to their original values. You are also able to remove them all and all the keys will be assign-able.

You can edit them using any registry editor.

I haven'r been able to make it work, though.

Can someone help.

Using Total Commander, I remove the "C" letter from the "PreDefined" file

in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Samsung\KeyRun\

However, when I go back to Settings - Key Settings I can not modify the C key.

I finally had to track down a buddy with a machine still running XP and it was able to overwrite the CV.exe and medianet.exe files in order to change those preset keys.
