Guest Paul (MVP) Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 MWg - formerly O2 Asia - have a new device on the block, the Atom V. Detailed here at eXpansys, specs include: - Windows Mobile 6 Professional - Intel XScale PXA 270 520MHz - 256MB ROM / 64MB RAM - UMTS (2100 MHz), Quad-Band GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz), HSDPA 7.2Mbps (network dependant) - Bluetooth v2.0, 802.11b/g WLAN - 2.8" QVGA - FM Radio with RDS - SiRF Star III GPS - 2MP camera with Flash - 116 x 59 x 14.95mm I'll be putting it through it's paces over the coming days and I've posted my unboxing above... if you have any questions, this is the place! Fire away! I'm particularly interested in the speed of the device with that speedy proc, whether 64MB is a hinderance, if the camera's any good and how sensitive the GPS is! Do any of the UK networks support 7.2Mbps HSDPA yet? That's pretty fast that :D :( P [Note: The video is just going thru approval, so if you're in quick after my post, you may not see it yet :(]
Guest shodanjr_gr Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Hey Paul. Nice unboxing. Pretty generic device to be honest but id like to know more about the custom UI. (i kinda wish samsung had bothered to set up a custom UI for the i780...that nice flush touchscreen going to waste...). Also, the link to expansys appears to be broken...
Guest Syphon Filter Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Gah, Still no VGA and only 64MB RAM? Paul, does the faster CPU make up for the loss in RAM?
Guest stern Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Vodafone have a 7.2 HSDPA network, City Centres and Airports etc. it's pretty quick here in Manchester.
Guest Ston Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Has the Glofiish M800 review been posted, have I missed it? How does this stick up against the M800? Is 64mb of RAM as big a deal as people make out?
Guest Ovie Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Why oh why do they just not put in 128mb of RAM!?!?!
Guest Monolithix Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 I've never had a device that i wouldn't use due to having only 64MB RAM, but the speed increase is fairly notible when using multiple apps on a 128MB device, all fairly subjective i guess...
Guest Monolithix Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 How's this for creepy, i just hooked mine up to the WMDC on Vista and this is the device image you get! Default name is "Chris's Swan", guess we know the OEM code name now then! :D

Guest chucky.egg Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 @Paul Could I ask that with future unboxing vids you zoom OUT a bit! I felt quite dizzy after watching that, and at least some of it was off-camera. Oh yeah, the device... Hmm, not for me. Too big.
Guest shodanjr_gr Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 Have you tried out the custom finger-oriented UI you were talking about during the unboxing? Can you provide screencaps?
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 I have, it's not very exciting, but i'll take some pics! P
Guest JD1973 Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 Paul, How does it compare to the Asus P750?
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 Given the choice, i'd have the P750, but they're a bit different really. P
Guest Joost39 Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 Thx for the input...I´ll keep the P750 then.
