This is My first post here, so I am a complete newb. I've only had my phone for a couple of weeks now. I cant seem to get the GPS to work correctly, I dont think when I pegg it to my location Its shows me my location accurate up to 2800 meters, I would hope it is more accurate than that. I've read all the threads here relating to this subject and tried all the fixes with no possitive results. On a completely unrelated topic, does anyone have a good case recomendation for the BL II, I've been looking athe bodyglove cases just wondering if theres any better options. If anyone could help it would be appriciated

That sounds more like Google Maps "My Location" feature with no GPS support. Where are you seeing this "accurate up to 2800 meters" message?

Download this app called GPS Test and you will be able to tell cery clearly whether or not your GPS is working or not. If it keeps saying "Looking for GPS device" or something like that, then you know you have a hardware config issue. Once it finds the SiRF chipset, it will start saying "GPS is starting up" and that means it is searching for enough sats to get a good lock on your position.

The first couple of times I started it up I had to give it 5-10 minutes sitting on a window sill before it got a good lock. But it seems quicker now that I've used it a few times. Not sure what that is all about.

Can you see any map (before going to "Address")?

It sounds like you might have the basic GarminXT working; but, as you've found, that does not include the detailed maps needed (of your specific area) for when you go to "Address." If you have actually chosen the detailed maps and installed those, there might be a problem with the GMAPSUPP file.

Whatever the case may be, it should be helpful to read through the whole GarminXT Tutorial.

Be sure you've done everything, step by step - it can be a little tricky:

The entire thread is long, but there's plenty of good info throughout: lots of troubleshooting solutions for various problems...

FWIW, that "GPS Test" app chokes on my BJ2 because I don't have the GPS running on a COM port but Google Maps and MSN Live Search work fine straight out of the box using the GPS intermediate driver.

I recently bought this phone from Rogers (JACK SGH-i616), and have been playing around with it trying to get the gps working on it for a month now. I finally was able to get the gps working :D I am using Google Maps instead of the $10/mo TeleNav. I have heard people say it works out of the box, some say it works after installing the MoDaCo GPS Activation COM4. I believe that the GPS lock on the BJII may be Carrier specific. I had the gps activator installed but wasnt able to find my gps, so just earlier today I backed up what I had on my phone and did a Hard Reset, reinstalled Google Maps...and it picked up my GPS and connected to the satellites within 10 minutes.

My wife and I each got a BJII at the same time. I got the Black one and she got the Burgandy one. Looking at the OS software versions, mine is older. I had to run the MoDoCo Activator to use the GPS. My wife's didn't need the activator. It worked right out of the box.

Took my BJII out for a test run earlier using Google Maps, works well :D except for the data usage of course. Google Maps acquired satellites in about a minute. One thing that I do like about Google Maps is that it has a cache, so after using it a few times, maps of where you have been will be stored in the cache which will cut back on the data usage a bit.

Just installed Garmin Mobile XT onto my BJII, works great. I find that launching Google Maps and Use GPS and let google connect to satellites a quicker way to acquire satellites, once Google Maps connects to the satellites, I exit it and return to Garmin, by the time I reach the main screen in Garmin I have already acquired satellites and am ready to go

My Google Maps acquires satellites in a matter of seconds now
