Is there a write-up to re-install WM 6 on a BJ II? i.e. like a new factory install

How do you get a new OS image onto a BJ II? i.e. is there a write-up to completely wipe out a BJ II with a fresh copy of WM 6?

I may have seen a thread about a hard reset, but I guess this would still need to be done together with a fresh OS load to get it back to factory fresh.

Sorry for the noob questions....

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know--assuming you didn't play with the WM6 ROM--a hard reset will restore the phone completely.

Ahard reset does restore to factory defaults. You only need a new ROM if you are upgrading it.

Hmm, I don't understand this. Can I use this analogy:

Computers= OS = Windows XP

BJ II phone= OS = WM 6

Computers= An OS reinstall wipes out all registry settings and software

BJ II phone= A ROM reinstall? or A "hard reset"?

I want to get back to the point I have a factory out-of-the-box phone. It seems to me I may need to reinstall the ROM and do a hard reset? No?

I looked on the BJ II supplied CD and there is no ROM image. How can I get the ROM image that originally came with my BJ II? When you buy a new computer, you get the OS either in CD or a recovery CD that reloads the entire OS from an image somewhere on your hard drive.

My apologies, as I am new to a PDA-like device and I am using computers as an analogy to understand how this all works.

Basically, the analogy to the BJ II using the computer example is: ...... that I simply want to reinstall the operating system from scratch and reset the computer's BIOS to factory default.

Where do I start and what files or utility software do i need to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance!

The ROM is exactly that Read Only Memory (OK, I lie, it can be flashed) so a hard reset reloads the OS from ROM and as James says, it will be in an 'out of box' state when you have done it.

Ok. That's cool.

Suppose when WM 6.1 is available for our phones, does it mean we would "flash" the ROM to WM 6.1?

That's correct.
