Guest nevawlkalone Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 I have heard that it is possible to expand dell laptop storage by removing the CD bay and you can put a HDD caddy type thing in instead. What i want to know is, is it possible that you can have the CD drive stil in with an EXTRA HDD in also. Dont really want to have to take all my stuff off my main HDD and move it all to a knew one (programs n that) - also dont want to have to lug an extra portable USB HDD round and dont mind a bit of extra bulge on the bottom. Is this possible?

Is this possible? HPCompaq used to do a moulded caddy to fit with a 2.5 ide HDD in place of the CD drive. They called it a media bay or somesuch. I used to have an extra 20gb fitted to my p3 Armada years ago. It wasn't cheap.... Depends if your CD uses a 2.5 IDE connector or some propriatory connector. Might be easier to swop out your HDD? Large cap. 2.5" ide are cheap at the moment. Check before buying what your HDD uses. My latest HP has an iPod type drive. M.S
