Guest Nick_Evans Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 Hi guys. Had an SPV for exactly one week now. Love the promise of the technology. Hate the reality!!!! Crashed 6 times so far. Most crashes are obvious like phone lockups when answering or making calls (when you try to hang up). However, last couple of days, I have had real problems trying to access internet over gprs. keeps coming back saying site is not found or not available (this is the Orange site!). Having this again this morning. Does anyone know if this is a phone bug or a problem with the Orange network????? Nick
Guest Anonymous Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 Unusual for that to happen. May be a phone fault but try hanging up GPRS before attempting to access the sites. I had this problem when trying to send email and GPRS was already connected. Hope this helps.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 I've had that when trying to write a PM reply on my phone ;) A quick refresh seemed to sort the problem though...
Guest Ian Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 Orange do sometimes have problems with GPRS, but they only affect quite localised areas (eg for the last two weeks I've had quite a few problems at home, but 3 miles away it works fine). If you call 156 they can check out your coverage. On thing that does seem to be confusing though - when the signal strength indicator has a little 'G' over it, I can have three bars and still get no GPRS. I think it might always show the voice signal strength rather than switching between the two.
Guest madu Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 The signal bars are actually the amount of free channels availible for you to use when making a call. So if you are in a theatre where there's usually 5bar reception and half the people start using their cells - your bars will reduce to none I guess.. I have problems with GPRS sometimes, but never in the evening. I blame it on heavy use of GPRS during the day - and I work in the city - what a nightmare! :?
Guest philgriffiths Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 Ive been havin problems with my GPRS the last two or three days too. whenever i try checking my emails, signing into messinger, or using internet explorer it just says dialling then does nothing. I figured that maybe i had been cut off for high usage or something. Allthough i dont think my usage is by any means high (check my emails once or maybe twice in a day, and only download headers, and maybe sign onto messinger for a chat with some old mates from home occasionally). Also i havent had any kind of warning about my usage so i phoned them and after getting sent round the houses a bit the woman in data support said something about sending me new GPRS setting or something like that (couldnt understand her too well since she had a really heavy accent and talked like she was on speed or something). So far all i seem to have recieved is a pin number. Just what exactley i am supposed to do with said code i really dont know. Want to phone them up again but dont think i can stand being put on hold to Justin Timberlake again. It made me want to burn things
