Guest scientist232 Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 (edited) This forum has been a valuable resource for getting the Blackjack II to do things the manufacturer (and Microsoft) never intended--and sometimes tried to prevent. What I'm wondering is if it's possible do download Google Maps of selected cities or counties in which I have an interest and have the built-in GPS receiver address only those locations. While it may be interesting to know that the GPS program can call Google Maps or Live Search in real time anywhere on the globe I'm more interested in a half dozen counties in central Indiana, USA and don't have (or wish to have) a data plan with the cell carrier. Guest nfrederick Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 You need to run something like TomTom or CoPilot that does not require any data usage as everything is stored on your storage card. However, you will still need Live Search to start the GPS, then open TomTom Instead of using live search for this purpose, use GPSTest. Live search will open your data connection. GPSTest will do nothing but start the gps and also give you good info. http://gps.SPAM.com/PocketPC/GPS-Test

No data plan? Garmin Mobile XT for the win. Any of a million threads in this forum can tell you everything you need to know. There are traffic and weather functions that use your data connection but can easily be turned off within the program. Also you might look up nodata.cab to ensure that you don't accidentally use any pay-per-use internet by mistake.
