How to add shortcuts to HomeScreen?

I'd like to add shortcuts to my Windows Mobile 6 home screen. I don't like the startmru plugin, because, as the name suggests, the programs/icons are never constant. Is there a way to add "desktop shortcuts" to the homescreen? I'm fully comfortable with editing XML files and all that. I just can't find the tag anywhere.
