Guest Zweisteine Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) Hi! I have a Wizard device which I tried to backup yesterday morning and, ironically, the backup application (Sprite) broke it. It boots to an unusable state with the "Windows Mobile" logo and the top taskbar visible, but it does not respond to touches or button presses. However, it connects to activesync succesfully and I am able to browse files. I am also able to browse the remote registry. What I want to do is recover my SMS messages. Unfortunately I can't install any unsigned app on the phone, as it would require me to press the left softkey to accept running it, and I can't do that. I already have Jeyo Mobile Companion but it stops downloading after the first few messages. I tried using rapi to see what processes are running and kill what might be causing the hang, but I hadn't run any of the tools before and a dll must be copied to \windows and I can't respond to that security prompt either. I tried removing the shortcut to Sprite Backup from StartUp but it still hanged on the next reboot. What could I do to make my PPC finish booting, besides a hard-reset? Are there any other places except \windows\startup to look for startup apps in wm5? Is there any app that would allow me to kill a remote wince process without requiring a security prompt?
