Guest Paul (MVP) Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 Microsoft has added some cool new features to it's FREE 'Windows Live Search' product. Available for download from http://wls.live.com, the new update adds:Map your friends: Grabs addresses from your contact list, puts them on the map, and provides directions. View Virtual Earth collections: Lets you check out maps of locations/events shared by members of the community. Web search: Launch web search directly from the client to find web pages, product price comparisons and reviews, news, images, etc. Weather: Check the current weather, or a 4 day forecast.Pretty cool :D P [Via: MobileCrunch]
Guest nickcornaglia Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 Definitely the best mobile software MS has ever created....and actually continue to develop!
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 Wish they would integrate the speech recognition for the UK though.
Guest Monolithix Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 Plus all the other stuff the UK version is missing :( A quick map of local petrol prices would rock! :D
Guest Alcedes Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 The fuel price listing makes this app golden! I love it!
Guest Tim Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 Is it just me that can't get Live Search to work properly when connected via Wifi? It won't display maps in any format and trying to do anything else just comes up with a message telling me to check my data connection. It's fine via GPRS and everything else is fine via wifi. Tim.
Guest ScrewlooseAZ Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 (edited) Has anyone else noticed that the backlight no longer stays on while using this App? At least when it's not plugged into the car. & Wifi works fine for me, just used it. Edited May 17, 2008 by ScrewlooseAZ
Guest dbhouston Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 Agree the improvements make WLS the best free thing out there for WM. I have a Q9h with its now legendarily slow GPS "time to first fix" problem, but after installing WLS this morning, I got a first fix in less than a minute. Amazed, I restarted the phone to see if it might happen again ... and it did! So the question is, did Microsoft institute some trick to help the device find sats or has AT&T possibly instituted assisted GPS, or is this just a one day fluke?
Guest GraemeCR Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Nice update. Thank you. Updated perfectly through IE - Skyfire could not determine what phone I have. (Moto Q9h - AT&T)
Guest petec500 Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 Am i the only one that gets presented with a page written in Dutch or some foreign language whenever i point my Touch at http://wls.live.com to download this software? Any ideas how i can change this to something i can read? I had it on my Touch originally, but removed it to free up some memory, but i'd really like to get it back again now.

If you go there on a desktop PC, it'll let you choose the cab file to download, which you can then copy to the device and install... Direct link to the WM6 cab (I'll remove if frowned upon...) http://mobile.search.live.com/client/downl...veSearchWM6.CAB
