Hello,

A week back I bought BlackJack II from wirefly (AT&T). I downloaded Google Maps, MS Live Search and have not downloaded any other hacks or other driver program being discussed in this forum.

For Google Maps, I used the default setting, -> Options / GPS Settings -> 'Set by Windows (Via Start -> Settings)

For Live Search, Settings -> GPS Intermediate Driver

Both the program works fine. I was under the impression that LiveSearch and GoogleMaps won't work out of the box, which was not the case with my phone.

I am wondering under what circumstances or to use which GPS software do I need to download the MoDaCo Smartphone GPS Activator and other tools like Microsoft_Smartphone_GPSID_Settings.cab.

I am trying to understand how this phone and built-in GPS works and its dependency on the software that comes with it.

On another context, I find that both LiveSearch and Google lack the 'text-to-speech' feature and also download the maps page at a time while driving. From the reviews, it looks like Garmin Mobile XT addresses both these issues. If I want to buy and use Garmin Mobile XT, do I need to download any additional hacks or other software to make it work.

There are lot of threads (lots of data) on GPS in this forum and by reading all these I was bit confused as to what to do if I want to use Garmin Mobile XT

regards,

sundar.

If you buy the latest Garmin Mobile XT then you won't need any GPS Hack. The Garmin Mobile XT also uses Intermediate Drivers. If you do buy it though I would consider deleting Live Search Maps as it's drivers may conflict with Garmin's. I have both Garmin Mobile XT and Google Maps with no conflict but haven't installed Live Search since conflicts between Live Search and Garmin have been mentioned several times on many forums.

If it's a newer phone, just install Garmin. Shouldn't be any extras required.

I run Google Maps, GPS Utilities, and NoniGPS Plot. Google Maps does not need the hack, it works just fine. The other two need the hack.

I did notice that Google Maps takes a long time to lock in on satellites, many minutes. I just installed GPS Utilites yesterday so I don't know much about it. NoniGPS Plot only takes about 30 seconds to get a lock in. Even though they use the GPS differently, somehow I can run Noni and get a lock and leave it running while I turn on Google Maps. I then have a lock instantly. Just a hint.
