Guest MrEous Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 (edited) Before I start, I did search and couldn't find anything specific with what I need to do. I need to disable items such as IE and any other ATT bloatware (the programs that connect to the internet) that is on my son's phone. Whether it be through registry hacks or using a ROM. I need to keep mms/sms capabilities. Not sure if I should just follow instructions on Hard Resetting the phone to remove the bloatware or not. Sorry if you have personally seen a thread like this before. If you have, please point the way. I appreciate any help. Thanks, Jeff PS-I already called ATT to see if I should just turn off Internet for his line but they said an active internet is needed on his line for mms/sms capabilities... Guest thelostsoul Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 For once, ATT is right. SMS is transferred separately, but you do need an internet connection to use MMS. There are applications on here which will disable the internet connection, leaving SMS alone, but MMS would then stop functioning properly.
Guest Confucious Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 Is the MMS not a seperate connection? If so, just install nodata.cab and disable all connections except MMS.
Guest hagie92 Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 AT&T is stupid. I'm 15, and have a Blackjack, I have unlimited text...but NO internet, and it works fine. Granted, he wont be able to recieve or send picture messages...(mms) but that is about it. I would just disable the data plan altogether. It's not needed, SMS will still work, Garmin GPS will still work, but none of the bloat will (xm radio, IE mobile, Cellular Video, MEdia Net, AT&T Mall, etc...)
Guest Confucious Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 Why do you say 'AT&T is stupid'? what on earth gives you that idea?
Guest MrEous Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 Thanks for the help...I've installed nodata so I can at least turn it back on whenever I want without having to call AT&T and waiting 10 min on hold. :D
