Activesync 4.5 USB sync to XP SP3 - Intermittent

I'm a new user of a Motorola Q9h, syncing (v4.5) via USB to my Dell P390 with XP-SP3. I find that it's intermittent in it's willingness to connect via activesync.

• It almost always connects if I restart the PC.
  
• It sometimes connects after sitting for quite a while not connected (e.g. it just did after 20 minutes).
  

Can anyone point me to a list of known conflicts between activesync 4.5 and other PC utilities?

I have quite a few so the problem is probably there, but tracking it down would be made much simpler with a guide.

More generally, is there a suggested way to resolve this problem?

Well mr. engineer, same problem here, tried every single solution that i found on the web, nothing helped, until i realized that the problem occurred only after installing xp sp3, i unistalled it, and booms it works allright, those nincompoops at microsoft cant do anything right, someone ought to kill em all.
