Guest PPCInformer Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 Microsoft has FINALLY given SideShow some much needed love by releasing Windows SideShow for Windows Mobile. Not yet mass-market ready, Microsoft’s Windows SideShow for Windows Mobile Developer Preview v0.01 is an application for Windows Mobile 5 and Windows Mobile 6 Pocket PCs and Smartphones that allows you to use your Windows Mobile device as a Bluetooth SideShow-compatible device. This enables you to use your phone as an extra window into your PC. You can both access your computer’s information from your Pocket PC or Smartphone, and control the computer through a gadget interface. When the phone is out of range, or when your computer is off, you can continue to view content sent to the phone previously. This makes it easy to send information to the phone that you’ll need later on. The developer preview is available in English only and supports Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate Bluetooth-enabled PCs using Microsoft’s Bluetooth stack. Windows SideShow for Windows Mobile requires a Bluetooth-capable Windows Mobile 5, Windows Mobile 6 Standard or Windows Mobile 6 Professional device with the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 installed. Head on over to the Microsoft site for more information and download! [Via: 1800PocketPC] [Edited by Paul (MVP) for News]
Guest Dave Smith Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 I've just been using this. And its fantastic. Works a treat. Would be a good way to control music in a room without having to have a keyboard and mouse, even a screen.

Especially if you have a Media Center that's hooked up to your TV and Amp - you can happily listen to your music collection without having the TV on. Having said that though, I went through the Live Gallery looking at SideShow gadgets and couldn't find anything else that's at all useful. I mean it's handy having your email and calendar on your phone, but hasn't everyone already?! I think it has great potential, but it needs some people to think outside the box and bring some really good uses to it.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 I wonder how it compares to the Go Gadgets solution? http://www.modaco.com/content/windows-mobi...nd-not-from-ms/ P
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 I just can't find a good reason to use SideShow at the moment. I have my mail via exchange, which shows the same as it would via sideshow. I use itunes for my music and control that via Clicker on my kaiser. So no other real reason to use it!
