Email and Message Notification Not Working

Ok, I just got the phone a week ago, so, there may be something simple I'm overlooking. Nonetheless...

Phone worked fine yesterday. I downloaded a few items after unlocking the apps and was playing with the phone. Everything seemed fine.

Plugged into charger, went to bed.

Woke up and found the light was red. Thought that was odd as it was charged all night. Then, it restarted when I picked it up. I figured this was because it checked for updates last night when I was sleeping per the log.

Now, I find that I can't get a sound or vibrate notification for email or text messages. When I call the phone, that works fine. It's just messaging. The incoming message/call light does still work, however.

I checked all the profile info, reset them, checked all the "Other Sounds" section, made sure they were marked.

What simple thing am I missing? I'm wondering if I changed a setting accidentally when I downloaded those items last night.

Try this, hit the power button and go to wireless manager and then disconnect cellular data.

then send yourself a test email and see if it picks up.

If that doesn't work, try powering down and then back up.

I think it's a deficiency in ATT's system if u're on that. I've had that problem for 2 years now over 2 phones, the 8525 and the BJ2

Hope that helps

Were the different sounds set to "None" before you had to change them back to your original selections?

What were you downloading? Sometimes when you're downoading/changing Homescreens that change, manipulate, or over-ride the standard Windows Mobile settings, your active profile sounds--save the ring tone--will get reset to None.

Don't know what causes the charging and resetting issue. Sometimes, more like randomly, when I take my BJII off the USB/charger, it will reset or lock-up. <_<

Well, thanks for the replies. To update, I took my phone in and just got a new one. I bought it a week ago and they were more than happy to make the change. Figured, eliminate an equipment issue upfront while it's still easy to do.

It still seems a bit skiddish. I was at work, at my computer and would receive no notification (other than the light) of my received email. Then, went 1/2 mile away to a store and it was vibrating for each receive. I don't know what it is. I think it has something to do with the coverage as well.

Also, I wonder if the Xpress mail feature is a cause...my messages and regular email would trigger the vibrate, no problem. Just my work email was the issue. I have found the Xpress option to be less than reliable. For example, I can't connect from my phone at all this morning. However, everything is up and running on my work DT and I can access the webmail box (for Express) from there with no issues.

Did you re-download those Programs you tried with the other phone? It could be one (or a combination) of those. Did you install LED alerts or Phone Alarm, by chance (many have no problems with those programs, but I have had some troubles)? You receive the LED notification but no vibe/sound to go along with the message? This suggests to me that your phone is receiving the Data but something is preventing the vibe/sound to execute as it should.

I've never used Express, so I can't comment on that.

Does a power cycle fix things at all; or, at least, for a while?

Yeah, I downloaded the PhoneAlarm. That program seems pretty, I don't know, useless from a settings standpoint. I have everything set for the profile and it doesn't vibrate. And for instance, I was awakened twice last night by emails that I received when I had the phone set to "vibrate alert" me in PhoneAlarm (I guess the sunny side is I actually was notified I received emails). And when I choose a "Work" profile and try to put everything on vibrate, vibrate or "none" isn't an option in the "Ring Tone" field. You *have* to choose a tone there. Makes no sense. Maybe I'm ignorant to the ins and outs of the software.

Powercycle doesn't seem to fix it though. Hmm, maybe I just need to kill Phone Alarm and find a new homescreen.

I tried Phone Alarm for a while. I like the idea of customizing different Profiles--and can't believe that WM doesn't allow this--but I just couldn't get PA to work well; it would reset my sounds to None when switching Profiles. I keep it loaded on the phone in case I find a Homescreen that I think I can't live without (in which case, I'll try it again...maybe), but for now, I just don't use H'screens that require that plugin.

I would try removing Phone Alarm (power cycling afterwords, of course) and using the phone for a while to see if that corrects the problem.

Good luck!

EDIT: if you haven't found this site, yet, try here for some good Homescreens. Many of them require the Facade Plugin (which is worth it in my opinion, or, very cost effective if you look around carefully enough); there are also Homescreens that don't require any plugins, color schemes, and wallpapers to boot...
