Guest Matthew850 Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Hi I have just orderd an MPx200 off eBay as a secondary and sort of 'experiment' phone and have a couple of questions to ask. First of all, I have seen a higher capacity battery on ebay (1.7Ah) and was wondering if anyone knows how good these are quality-wize? I know some batteries on eBay are poor quality and either don't work or carry the risk of explosion ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeWq6rWzChw if you think explosion is an exaggeration :D ). Also, I know poor reception is a classic trait with the MPx200, so I was wondering if anyone knew the exact location of the antenna and what it is like. I was thinking it might be possible to actually replace it with a better one. The frequency of mobile phones in the UK is 1900Mhz so it has a wavelength of 16.6cm. Is there space in the phone to fit this in (Coiled obviously to save space)?
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Replacement batteries are always a questionable area but from what other memebrs have found the benefits can be both good and bad. As for the batteries exploding etc this is generally due to the protection circuitry failing or on cheap imitatino batteries not being made correctly in the first place. as for reception, I do not know of anyone who has made a definate successful upgrade to the antenna but great care should be made when attempting this and unless you have extensive knowledge in playing with antennas you should probably avoid playing as you may end up damaging the phone. A guide to taking the phone apart can be found HERE and my antenna image appears not to be loading correctly but there is another image on page two which shows the antenna. This is housed near the hinge of the lower half of the phone (between the battery and the hinge).
Guest kurtfhouse Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 (edited) Hi I have just orderd an MPx200 off eBay as a secondary and sort of 'experiment' I've just done the exact same thing :D I thought I'd try and install wm6.1 on it and see how well it runs. I originally had this phone in 2003/2004 and loved it, I wish I hadn't sold it now, but it was out of contract and I think I was raising money towards getting the I-mate Jam.
