Guest Networkguy Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 So later on this year I will be changing my S710 for a new phone. I think it is down to either the Touch Pro or the Xperia from Sony but I have just seen a review on the Touch Pro where in the comments, some of the US users got quite worked up over the phone not being quad band. Now I do know when I have been to the states with my S710, it works fine. Likewise before that with my Jamin. Now I don't believe my Jamin was quad band so am puzzled. I go to the states a few times each year so it is important that my phone works when I am there but is the talk about the Touch Pro relevant or would I just be limited on the networks I can roam on? If anybody knows more about US networks than I do (not difficult) then I am all ears. Thanks
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted June 14, 2008 Report Posted June 14, 2008 Quad band is the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz Some devices claim 800Mhz rather than 850Mhz but from what I understand the two 800Mhz ranges were combined into one. GSM bands, Networks will use different bands and so there is a chance that a network you intend to use a triband may not be compatable. Normally the 800 band (from memory) is usually not included on a triband device. The main networks in the USA generally use CDMA which is different again and more closely related to the way 3G work. GSM's version of 3G is known as EDGE.
