Guest Paul (MVP) Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Here at MoDaCo, we love Firefox. It's my browser of choice (although I do sometimes lean towards Opera 9.5 too), and today marks the launch of the long awaited Firefox 3. To mark the occasion, the Firefox team are trying to break the world record for downloads in 1 day!Set a Guinness World Record Enjoy a Better Web Sounds like a good deal, right? All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours - it’s that easy. We're not asking you to swallow a sword or to balance 30 spoons on your face, although that would be kind of awesome. The official date for the launch of Firefox 3 is June 17, 2008. Join our community and this effort by pledging today! The 24 hour period starts at 6 PM UK time (10AM PDT) today... so click the fox above to head on over and pledge / download... and give Firefox a try if you haven't already! :D P

Guest Paul (MVP) Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Yeah, indeed... and the more competition in the WinMo browser market the better! P
Guest Dark Horse Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Flash demo of new Firefox 3 features here.
Guest tsutton Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 I have Firefox 3 Beta installed at work for testing purpose. It's pretty good, better than Firefox 2!
Guest mwright Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Hmm - I think they shot themselves in the foot here. I cannot get anywhere near the download site! Completely overloaded!
Guest tsutton Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Yep, it's VERY hammered! All I got from them was this Http/1.1 Service Unavailable LOL
Guest jimbouk Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 I wonder if they deliberately wanted their site to get overloaded... for the publicity. Anyone with half a brain would think that a web browser company who couldnt guage demand for their web browser must be lacking something...
Guest deadphill Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Probably. As soon as I saw it I did think err yea thats going to go down! Thing is with all their pledges surely they would have anticipated demand lol!!!
Guest dave_a Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Finally got past the "Http/1.1 Service Unavailable" only for it to take me to the Firefox 2 download page!! Has anyone managed to download it yet?

Guest Paul (MVP) Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 What, people still use that? :D http://www.getfirefox.com P
Guest tsutton Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Seems they're doing rather well! http://downloadcounter.sj.mozilla.com/ Yeah. Only 12 hours gone and already over 5 million. They can easily make 10 million by the end of 24 hour if it stays up like that!
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Let's hope its less memory hungry than FF2.
Guest Syphon Filter Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Hrm, I love FF but a couple of annoying things: 1) tab browser preferences add-on doesnt work, which is fair enough as FF3 is only just out. But they didnt incorporate ANY features of TBP into FF3 as stanard, namely the ability to have a newly created tab go straight to your home page. 2) In FF2, if you selected a folder in your bookmarks and did "Open All in Tabs" it opened every link in a new tab. Now it opens the first link in the tab you currently have in focus. Highly annoying.
