Guest hobbster Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Hello to all. I've installed Efficasoft GPS Utilities for Smartphone v2.0 ($15.95) on my Q9h. An additional com 4 patch was included and installed. Everything works great expect the battery drains very quickly. I've uninstalled the com 4 patch which seems to be the demon doing the battery draining. I've changed com ports with no joy to the GPS program working. Always a time-out error message. Please advise. PS a Garmin GPS program works fine on this device with no battery ill effects, but at $99.00 it has an ill effect on me. Hobbster
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 Sounds like the patch is causing the system to continuously talk to the GPS. I do not have the application myself and can only suggest you contact the developer explaining the issue as a bug report.

Every single time the phone has to "turn on" the receiver. This is very annoying. AND if you don't quit or kill the program running the GPS, it will run forever. The battery life in the Q9h already isn't the best. I suggest looking at a GPS test application to actually see the time it takes for it to start up and keep working. My GPS, when using the test, takes at least 5 minutes to start up. Somewhere on this site there is a GPS activator for our device, but for me it just made my data not work... So use at your own risk. But that is supposed to help. So my guess is that the program isn't turning off the GPS... It would be annoying but maybe you need to turn off your phone everytime you are done with the GPS, IF killing the program doesn't work.

Guest awarner (MVP) Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 The Q9h does not have wifi but to uses google over your networks data connection. So unless you have a good data tariff on your network using google maps could eventually work out more expespensive depending on how often you intend to use it.
