Guest billymild Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 I have read a lot on information about the GPS on here and on the internet in general. I run GPStest and it finds a signal I am pretty sure. There are bars for certain numbers, but when I go into Google maps I get no signal. My settings for google maps are as follows. I have tried the default setting which is determined by Windows and I tried the com4 9600 baud rate along with other baud rates. I don't know why GPStest works but not google maps. What would be some suggestions for me? I have also installed the GPS hack com 4 deal. I also have tried to hard reset my phone.
Guest Mojoski Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 When you start up GPSTest, you will first see the bars on the screen for the satellites.. That does not, however, mean that your device has a "lock" yet.. Keep letting GPSTest run until the "Fix" field says "3D". That means you have an actual lock and the GPS can tell your position. Then press the Home button and get back to your Today Screen, while leaving GPS Test running in the background. At that point you should be able to open up the GoogleMaps application and select "Use GPS" and actually get your location updated to within 3-5 meters. When I get a lock in Google Maps Mobile, it shows in a text message at the top of the screen how many satellites it is communicating with. Hope this helps! Also, when you are done, don't forget to completely exit both GoogleMaps and GPSTest (using their respective menu optionss or the "Task Manager" application) or else they will keep running in the background and keep your GPS device running as well, and therefore run your battery down more quickly than you want.. It's VERY frustrating. I have also found that while using Garmin XT, the re-routing is VERY slow. Does the GPS work, yes. does it work well, not for me, much too slow.

It's much better than nothing, however.

Guest mmlsv Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 +2 on spartanrob's comments about inconsistant gps lock and extremely long route calculations and re-calculations. I agree its better then nothing as well but needless to say i need soemthing more usable. Glad to see its not just my phone thats having this issue. My feeling is its processor related?

My best guess is not enough processor horsepower.
