Guest dadypain Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 Hi there, I have a 64mb Multi media card from my old siemens sl45, i tried to use this on my spv but the phone doesnt seem to detect it. is there a difference between multi media cards and sd cards? also does the spv only read sd cards? If its any help the card make is sandisk. thanks, i would appreciate any help. Khaled
Guest Bazz Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 The phone can read MMC or SD. What do you mean the phone can't detect it? Can you see it in Active Sync in Storage Card?
Guest dadypain Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 thats the problem, it doesnt see the card at all, neither active sync not all explorer see the card when i put it in for some reason.
Guest casper508 Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 I've seen this question couple of times but haven't seen a definitive answer. Does your card still work with the SL45? My brother has an SL45 and he uses my SPV to copy mp3s to his MMC. Never had any problem. Im not helping much am I? Cas
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I remember reading in the past that for some reason some cards just don't seem to work:( How about getting a cheep card reader and trying that way? always useful for faster uploading to the card ;)
Guest dadypain Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 the MMC card does still work on the SL45, cos i still listen to mp3 on it. But you see, this is my problem, because i dont want to invest in a 128mb SD card off of ebay only to find that when it arrives it wont work. Does the SPV have problems with MMC cards only or has it been known to have problems with SD cards too?
Guest yatpeak Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I believe it's only known to have trouble with MMCs, it shouldn't have trouble with as SD. However I would continue to try with the MMC as it is a bit of a waste if you later find that the MMC will work. Wyatt
Guest dadypain Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 thats a good point, any ideas on how i can get the phone to read it, maybe i'm not doing something right?????
Guest dadypain Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I just found out something else guys.... When i switch on the phone while holding the voice message button, the phone says card found. but then when i i hold down the action key for 2 seconds it goes to a blank white screen and crashes. This is very strange, because when i switch the phone on normally, all explorer cant read it, doesnt make much sense to me. Also as a pointer, i do have mp3 files on there from sl45, do u think that might cause a problem?
Guest madu Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Sandisk - don't they usually make SDs?? Can your phone see/read the original Panasonic 8MB SD? I still have not found a way to manually format a memcard, but if there is a way (maybe on a PDA) try formatting the card? Maybe Siemens formats it in some strange way? PS: My 32MB MMC card that comes with a Nokia MP3 player (that went back to the shop ;) ) which is a Hitachi if I'm not mistaking has somehow lost half its capacity and now only has 16MB availible, even though it's empty and shows in AllExp that total storage space is 32MB.. Weird.
Guest dadypain Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 that is very strange. Yes thats right, sandisk do make sd cards, however this one was an MMC card. My spv reads the 8mb sd card perfectly, no problems there. During this time i continued to fiddle around with the MMC card, i put it back in the Sl45 and deleted all the mp3 files, however there was two tunes there i couldnt delete, maybe i have corrupted the card or something, wat do u think?
Guest madu Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Well, when my card went odd, it had an mp3 file on it that was 24mb - a live set. Suddenly it would only play first few tracks and then Media Player would just stop playing. I assume half of the memory chips inside the card have been f***ed. Though the file was there and could be deleted. Can you play the 2 files that cannot be removed?
Guest dadypain Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 yes i can play the two files from my SL45, but unable to delete them. Its frustrating because i could be using this 64mb card for my SPV, but it wont read at all, even thought it says "card found" when i switch on the phone while holding the voice message button.
