Guest HTC-lover Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 My new Compact IV doesn't work properly. This is daft. After five days: a) Can't get outgoing email to work, despite four calls to T-Mobile & the general wisdom of MoDaCo. :D The phone charge doesn't last the day, despite very moderate use. If I was busy at work it would be dead by lunchtime. c) The phone runs hot to the touch. Hotter than any phone I've ever owned (including the Nokia N95) d) TouchFlo is clumsy and is very unreliable. I'm constantly ending up in the wrong app, or dialling the wrong people. e) Lots of details are klutzy - from the keyboard through to search routines. All in all, although the 3G performance has finally arrived, the interface feels as if it's a prototype which has been rushed into production (perhaps because of the launch of a competitor?). Now what do I do, folks? I upgraded from the Tytn - should I just go back to a TytnII or Compact Touch? Or do I go to the Iphone? Frustrated of SW London

Frustrated of SW London I'm in a similar quandry, I am between 3 phones, the iPhone 3G, MDA Compact IV or waiting for the Touch Pro. I had the origional Vario and I would like a new phone for email, internet, etc and I loved my Vario. But the problems with the compact don't fill me with confidence about the new Touch Pro (Vario IV) as its going to be all but the same with a keyboard. I would go for a Vario III (TytnII) but I feel I really want something thats new, not almost a year old, especially when T-Mobile are wanting £100 even for the V3. Part of me thinks that despite the more basic limitations of the iPhone such as MMS, poor camera and no copy/paste that as a a multimedia, email and internet device it is still going to be the best all rounder, and the touch interface works well on that too.
Guest chucky.egg Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 You don't say what you need from your device, but you could try the Nokia E71 - I'm looking at that myself
Guest maclondon Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 My new Compact IV doesn't work properly. This is daft. i Agree 100% thats why i sold mine after 2 days. its unusable, sure if it had come out 3 years ago it would seem amazing and we would all put up with the 'issues' but this is meant to be a cross over device for mass consumption not a smartphone geek tool, that requires registry hacks and debranding firmware flashes and a working knowledge of xda developers to make it even half usable. do tmoby have a14 day return policy? return. wait til something you want comes along. e71 looks nice. n96 is just an n95 so if you didnt want one of them - dont consider it. iPhone, nice if you are into music/video and shiny shiny ness. or wait x1? symbian 5th edition touch (theres no 4th edition as its unlucky - see also no nokia has a 4 in the product number) you could remove touchflow 3d - i think that helps a bit

I think I agree with your analysis - the challenge is finding something better than the Diamond with touchflo switched off. That shiny shiny Iphone is the obvious candidate but I'm just very sceptical about Apples....

Little bit skeptical about the iPhone myself, considering just getting a Vario III maybe as if the Rafael has Touch Flo 3D it might not be much better.
Guest ljames28 Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 I dont get it, whats wrong with a phone coming with TF3D. You can just pretend its not there and turn it off, you dont have to do a registry hack or anything you just turn it off from the today screen then its a normal WM phone.

Didn't know you could turn it off! I didn't find Windows Mobile to be particulary great before although it is very compatible with software and I could get programs to do anything I wanted, something which I feel is lacking on the iPhone, although its seems a fairly high specced bit of hardware.
