Guest dshap Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 Hi, I'm studying abroad in Australia right now and I am trying to set up my BJ2 as a modem for my laptop. I'm using a small provider called Talk Down Under (www.talkdownunder.com) which [as I understand it] has some weird partnership with a major telcom network to get their own plans which they can offer to college students. I did a lot of googling/searching and took the following steps to try to get this working: First, I set my BJ2 USB Connection to "Modem" instead of "ActivSync." Then, I plugged my BJ2 into my laptop and installed the appropriate drivers so that it recognized the device as a modem. Then, I went into network connections and added a new dial-up connection that uses the SAMSUNG Modem. I dialed *99#, as I was told to do on a tutorial I was reading, and it said "Dialing..." then "Registering your computer on the network..." and then 30 seconds later I got the following message: "TCP/IP CP reported error 718: The connection was terminated because the remote computer did not respond in a timely manner" Does anyone know how to get around this? Note that I am paying $59/month for an unlimited data plan and that e-mail & web-browsing ON my phone are working perfectly at 3G speeds. Talk Down Under gave me an Optus SIM card. Any help would be greatly appreciated :D Thanks!
Guest Confucious Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 According to their site the $59 is the blackberry plan. Wireless internet is: For $69 per month you receive 2GB of download (excess usage charges at 30 cents per MB. And I can't find their T&C so am not sure if tethering is allowed - no details seem to be in their T&C which is very surprising! Guest whatwhatpopeye Posted September 13, 2008 Report Posted September 13, 2008 Why use it as a modem? Use it as a gateway instead. 1. Download http://www.motosmartzone.com/inventory/sof...6/appunlock.cab 2. Download http://sems.org/content/download/secpolicies.cab 3. Download http://www.mdots.net/misc/BJ.WM6.ICS.Enable.cab (WARNING: If you download this file using IE, it may incorrectly name the extension .isc be sure to rename it to .cab before saving it.) 4. Transfer all of these cab files to your BlackJack's \My Documents folder. 5. Install the appunlock.cab file and reboot. 6. Install the secpolicies.cab and reboot. 7. Install the BJ.WM6.ICS.Enable.cab and reboot. 8. Navigate to \My Documents and click on Certs.cab to install and then reboot. 9. You should now be able to run ICS from the Internet Sharing Icon in your Start Menu.
