One Diamond too many - what to do

I have just renewed my Orange contract after deciding to leave (they 'made' me stay :D )

I am in the unusual position of being recorded as a 'small business user' which probably stems from the early days of Orange when your employer had to g'tee you'd pay the bills. Anyway, the upshot is that in addition to a better monthly deal and 'unlimited' data for two phones (out of three) I will shortly recieve 2 Diamonds! I did ask if I could have just one and perhaps have an even better tariff or something and was told "no" so it seemed churlish to refuse a gift horse :angry:

My 'dilema' is that my 'significant other' currently uses a Samsung which she likes as it has buttons and I suspect that she'll not want to transfer to her Diamond. My Q's:

1. Can I simply switch the new SIM card for the 2nd Diamond (which I was told had to be activated) to the Samsung so she can continue using that (as I suspect she'll want to do) ?

2. As an alternative to return/swapping the Diamond could I flog it without fear of the Orange Stasi coming round?

The answer's Yes to both, as long as the Samsung is reasonably recent.

The new SIM cards will both be 3G USIMs but they should be OK in any recent phone.

The upgrade phones are yours to do with as you will, though the IMEI numbers are linked to your contract; you can certainly sell them on but if there are any warranty claims, the new owner may have difficulty getting them actioned without coming back via you.

Thanks NeilM, I was hoping that would be the case - I suppose I'll just have to be careful to whom i flog it :D

That said, you never know she may well be suduced by the slick blackness of the Diamond and we'll be picking up each other's phones by mistake for the next 9 months :D

Provided the Samsung isn't locked to another network it wont be a problem.

I always assume, when buying phones off eBay, that I wont have a Warranty.

And you dont actually have to register the new sim if you dont want to. Orange like people to for "inventory" purpose - but the old sim will keep working.

Ah interesting! So that is indeed the case :D

I must admit I did wonder why this was "important" or indeed, if it really was. So I can just ignore it if I wish? - although I'll probably stick the new one in as i wouldn't want some scally wandering around with my details on a SIM card card if I sold it with the 2nd Diamond.

To be clear, as long as the SIM fits it's not device specific so it'll be backwards compatible - the Samsung is not a 3G phone - 2 G I think (one of those ultra slim, non-sliding jobs they were pushing a year or so ago)?

Do NOT sell the SIM with the phone, just don't register it or use it (cut it up and throw it away if you want) but it will work in the Samsung if you wanbt to use it. USIMS are backward compatible with SIMS - same size etc.

a USIM is a Universal Subscriber Identity Module which is a UMTS SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) ie a 3G SIM as opposed to a good old fashioned 2G SIM.
