The Quest for Faster Kaiser Video Drivers Steps up a Gear

HTCClassaction.org reports that they now have a version of the drivers being worked on for the Kaiser that will support full screen mode with games, and that will work on any ROM based on the official HTC WM 6.1 release.

Again, here is a new set of drivers. This new package changes some things again, to hopefully make it compatible with more ROMs. The first package we released didn't work on the officials, the second didn't work on a bunch of cooked, we hope this one will work on both.

What has also changed is full-screen compatibility. A hack was applied that fakes full-screen mode using windowed mode, this now allows GLBenchmark to run. Theoretically it should also allow full-screen D3D apps, but this has not been tested yet (we're sure someone in the discussion topic will do this). Note that not all GLBenchmark tests seem to run completely, but this is also the case on the Diamond. Scores are close between the Kaiser using these drivers and the Diamond, with about a 20% difference that could be due to the Diamond having a faster CPU than the Kaiser. We're still working on getting true full-screen mode operational, so there may still be some quirks with this faked mode.

Obviously from that quote, it is still far short of being the full monty package, but its exciting news, especially that progress is being made so quickly since my original news post on the conception of the drivers only 12 days ago.

If you want to see first-hand what this is all about and install this on your kaiser, head over to HTCClassaction.org and have a look.

Cheers

This is ( i think!) the driver i downloaded earlier today - it seems to work fine on my Vario III running TLR's latest 6.1 build.

not sure if copilot 7 seems better or not...

But then its only been a couple of hours since i installed it... :D

It's still a bit disappointing that it's so low down on the GL benchmark scores for a phone with 3D acceleration (and the Diamond isn't much better). The Nokia N95 is highest and has been out for 18 months!

I guess that not much effort was put in to the original Diamond driver (I think that's where this derivation comes from?) - just enough to get Touchflo 3D to run reasonably.

Or, Qualcomm's & HTC's implementation of CPUs & drivers are inferior to everything else out there including Sony Ericsson.

How are people getting on with this? Is it making any noticeable difference to the usability of your device?

Still waiting for my kaiser back from the repair shop, so I cant comment yet!

Ugh! Absolutly no carrier provided phones are sold by USA carriers that run WinMo 6.1 Pro! But this is very encouraging. Has any one tested any of the 2D acceleration (ex: does scrolling in applications occurr any better)?
