Guest thatake Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 Hi, I’m not sure what this is about, but my BJ2’s data connection acts up quire often. I have an ATT unlimited PDA plan together with the voice for my work, and it takes several reboot (battery out) before it has steady 3G connection. Sometimes never - so I give it up for a while. LED light turns on purple and the “no data connection” icon shows. Other times, I have a real good data coverage – all at the same location (my desk). Other ATT PDA users (next to my desk) don't have any issue so I don't think it has anything to do with the actual network. I think it has everything to do with my PDA setup... Is there a tip to look at the wireless connection status? Home => Start => Settings => Connections => Wireless Manager => Phone is on (I noticed it’s not MediaNet – what is the difference anyway?). Networks is on ATT too. In IE, Menu => Tools => Options => Connections are set to Automatically detect checked, and select network as The Internet. Any other places I can look at how I’m supposed to be connected to the data network? Thanks!

Under GPRS you will see two entries, one for MEdia Net and one for AT&T IMS. Write down all the settings for AT&T IMS (just in case) but then delete it because it's not needed. There are posts elsewhere in this forum with more on why but I deleted it long ago and mine worked more reliably without it. As for the IE settings, I have mine connect directly to "The Internet" and have the Automatically detect settings box unchecked. The only thing to remember about this is that the AT&T Media Net page is reached through the WAP proxy so if you use that you'll need to change it to connect to "WAP Network" to reach it, otherwise IE will work better when it goes straight to "The Internet". Things won't ever be perfect and reliable but mine generally works well with these settings. Even the iPhone locks up now and then. :D

Oh my, you are right, it started getting the data now! 3G icon is now stable... This was driving me up the wall for the last 4 weeks, it sometimes worked and not other times. Because I pop the back cover so often, the phone started warping. Thanks Andy, you made my day!
