Brand spanker...

Hello esteemed WM gurus,

I got my HTC Touch Diamond through yesterday and I'm as baffled by it as I am impressed.

Prior to this phone all my previous phones have been your basic non-smartphone mobiles so I am literally a brand spanking new windows mobile user.

My first (of many) question is, what would be the first things you would do with your Diamond after you'd unwrapped it and charged it?

I've been reading alot of stuff about how the interface is slow and that it's best to do some kind of reset and download a better DOS version (not sure what that means). I must admit, compared to my past mobiles the diamond is quite slow to navigate through but don't know whether it's just cos of all the stuff on it or whether something can actually be done to speed it up.

Would appreciate any advice that people may have. I want to be able to actually use the potential the phone has and not use it as a normal mobile phone cos I could have got something esle for that for a lot less money! I realise that I don't realy have much to contribute to the site myself as yet, but hope that in a few months time I can start advising "newbs" too!

Thanks

p.s If it helps the following information comes up in red writing when I switch on the phone for the 1st time

R: 1. 00. 25. 03

G: 52. 26a. 25. 09

D. 1. 37. 00. 00

and then it says Windows Mobile 6.1

Also, I'm in England and the phone has an Orange simlock.

Welcome to the site :D

Regarding the slow interface etc, what a lot of more experienced users do is what's known as flashing the ROM, this basically means that it wipes the phone and then installs the operating system but with modified settings etc.

personally I would suggest you get used to the pocket pc format before diving in too deep.

There is a Diamond section of the site that is ideally the place you need to visit and chat with other Diamond owners, this can be found HERE

A pinned topic in the Diamons section is Paul's must have FREE Diamond software always a good place to start when looking at the vast range of software that is available.

Thanks alot for the reply and the welcome :D

That ROM flash seems like something I'll leave for now.

I've been having a good look around the site and there's alot of good advice on here, most of which I don't understand :D , but I'm sure I will with time. Have checked out some of the download stuff as you said and got a few bits on the phone, can't seem to get the lightsaber working tho, keeps coming up with an "unexpected error" message when I try and open it, even tho it now shows up in my program list  .

Thanks for the advice
