Guest JohnBWong Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 i just purchased a i617 and borrowed my sister's garmin mobile xt to see how it works with my blackjack II so i would know to buy my own or look for another brand to buy. i got it installed and used the MoDaCo Smartphone GPS Activator that i found on this site. but i couldn't find an option to set the gps to com 4. i went through the whole gps software and i did reboot the phone after i installed the activator. no matter what it always says "GPS OFF" i don't really know if this software is compatible with the BJII but some said it would work. if you know how to get to the option to change to com 4 or know another good brand i could buy please tell me, because i am clueless on which brands of gps software works with the BJII, and which is good and bad.

Load and run GPS Test first. Set the COM 4 and 19200 baud. It will say GPS Starting up. After a minute ot two, it will switch to GPS Running (do this outside). Run Garmin XT after it is running. It should locate the GPS hardware. Should work.

Uninstall the patch power off/power on tell garmin to use the "intermediate driver" -- I use Garmin XT on my BJII every day, I also had to learn that the activator wasn't needed for that software.

I don't think the patch has any effect, as I have the patch installed and have been using Garmin XT without a hitch.
