One of the applications that I understand that O/M$ dropped for the SPV was the AvantGo application – this is a favourite amongst PPC/ Palm users. This application allows off-line viewing of web-pages – AvantGo has been mentioned occasionally on the forum but, as far as I can see, not specifically on the wish list. One of the reasons for O/M$ decision might have been lack of memory on the SPV but it should have been possible to tweak the application so that it ran off a SD card (I know that I read somewhere how to run AvantGo off a CF card on the PPC but cannot remember where).

If you’re not familiar with AvantGo it is an off line web browsing application (which synchronises via ActiveSync). So, for you football fans, rather than pointing your SPV WAP browser at, say, the 4thegame.com WAP site (www.4thegame.com/wap) you can set this site as one of your AvantGo channels, and then read the entire content on your SPV off-line without incurring GPRS etc charges (of course maybe this is why O don’t want it on the SPV, or am I being a cynic?!?).

The BBC and many newspaper WAP sites are also available via this route, e.g. The Guardian WAP page is: www.guardian.co.uk/avantgo/ and you can add this to your AvantGo channels (of which there are many thousand covering a variety of subjects). See the AvantGo website - my.avantgo.com/home/

So come on O/M$ let’s see AvantGo available on the SPV!
