Guest rfadream Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 (edited) hi i'm thinking of switching to at&t from tmobile and getting the blackjack 2 from wirefly.com or letstalk.com they both have the blackjack 2 for sale at $0.01 with an additional $50 rebate. i want to get the $59/month 550min with rollover family plan with 2 phone lines and 2x blackjack II's. but i do not want the additional $30/month per phone data plan. there seems to be no choice in the options for choosing no to the dataplan so i figured thats a mandatory part of the contract, meaning i'd need to keep the voice $60 + data $30×2 = $120/month for the whole 24 months. but then i went to the local at&t store yesterday and the sales girl told me that i can cancel the data plan without any penalties after i receive the rebate. can anyone confirm that this is true? has anyone used this get $50 back promotion from either wirefly.com or letstalk.com and then canceled the data plan without any penalties or early termination fees? The data plan was mandatory to receive the rebate and then he was able to cancel it the day his rebate was approved. But it may be cheaper to pass on the rebate; here's how it went down for him. It took three month to get his rebate approved so he spent $90 on his $50 rebate... Edited August 17, 2008 by mmain1
Guest rfadream Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 (edited) i called at&t to see if they might be able to clarify. i found out you don't necessarily need the $30 data plan. you can go with the $20/month text msg plan or even better for me since i'm looking for a family play with 2 maybe 3 lines, they have a $30 flat rate unlimited family text msg plan. those 2 above qualify me for the rebate in place of the data plan apparently. the lady said that i only needed to keep the extra data or msg plan for the first 30 days and that would qualify me for the rebate approval, but she might have been mistaken or lying. but your right it does sound like it would make more sense to just cancel before the 2nd month starts and forego the $50 rebate *** IMPORTANT EDIT *** i found out there is an additional separate Equipment Discount Terms & Conditions from wirefly.com it says that you MUST keep the additional email/data features for 181 days or there will be a $250 early termination fee. i've decided to just buy an unlocked samsung blackjack II from ebay and use it with t-mobile instaed Edited August 17, 2008 by rfadream
