Right, I've got my Omnia via Orange, and TBH I'm a complete newbie on windows mobile, its applications and what it really can do.

I've managed to charge the phone :D

Uploaded music to it, GPS seems to be working. ( Abit slow indoors)

Texting and email are fine.

Transported all my contacts.

I haven't updated yet.

This is where I'm a bit green....

Is it the windows update that is required or a firmware update ?

Is their a basic guide on how to do this..

Getting Video to the phone seems complicated, WMP wants to convert avi's ( I thought they would have been supported)

Believe it or not, I've not even played with ring tones or message tones yet...

I probably could do with, a "must have" application just to text how they're installed and play around a bit more..

Any help will be thankful

Hey Dan ... finally signed up eh!

I'd certainly recommend "Core Player", it plays nearly all of the things that WMP doesn't want to. Then it's just a case of copying the video file over, or possibly re-encoding it at a smaller size/res.

Sat Nav, I guess your choices are TomTom 6, Co Pilot 7 Live or iGO 8. I've gone for CoPilot and love it.

Regarding the update, it's a firmware update. I would seriously suggest reading how to do it several times before doing it. But I'm not sure where said instructions are! Windows update for WinMo has never worked that I'm aware of.

Normally Paul whacks up a "Paul's must have apps for X phone" thread.

Id also recommend looking at AppToDate, NoData, and CamerAware.

Any specific probs, give us a shout.

Cheers

Question: Do you have haptics feedback in the input methods (i.e. in the 20 key, qwerty etc.)?

Depends upon the site you are downloading from. Generally look for Windows Mobile Pocket PC software. It's not a smartphone, as those are the ones running the similar OS, but without a touchscreen.
