Guest Clos Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 Hi I've been enjoying my Omnia for a week now and this morning a strange thing happened. My internal storage has been renamed to 'my storage2' and a new 'my storage' folder has been created. I think this may be caused by restarting the Omnia while in USB mode. All my programmes installed there don't work now and I'd like to avoid re-installing them all. I don't seem to be able to get things back to normal. Any ideas? Thanks I'm on firmware version i900XXHG5
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 I have seen this bug on other devices like the HTC Wizard but it was always related to the storage card and not the internal storage. The old fix would be to remove the card then delete the storage folder and reboot the device. With internal storage I'm not sure of a simple fix as I have not seen or tried the device you have but you could try deleting the new folder then do a soft reset and see what happens. Apart from the the only definite way could possibly to do a hard reset.

Guest phillipxenxciel Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 it happen to me too~~but after a reboot(or few) it fix it self
Guest DaZelator Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 (edited) Thanks It's all back to normal now! :D So did you do a hard reset? I have read that the renamed Internal Storage relates to unplugging the USB cable without securely stopping the device. Apparently, quick fix is, while not connected to PC, to use File Explorer to rename the newly created "My Storage" to e.g. "My StorageX", rename the original "My Storage2" to "My Storage", and delete "My StorageX", followed by a soft reset. Please try and confirm, as I do not have the Omnia myself, yet. Thanks, DaZelator. Edited August 27, 2008 by DaZelator
Guest Jazlynn Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 I have experience that problem too. However, mine is back to normal. I just restart my omnia and My Storage is back. But before you restart your phone, remember to delete the existing "My Storage" first. Thankz.
Guest Quist09 Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 I've seen this twice so far. Once with a combo of DXHH1 PDA and DXGH4 radio and now with DXHH3 PDA and DXGH5 radio so apparently it's not solely related to the rom. To resolve the issue, I used the file explorer to rename the bogus My Storage to My StorageX then softreset and let the system reassign the name My Storage to the internal card (mine wouldn't let me rename My Storage2 to My Storage manually). Instead of deleting the bogus folder outright, I moved the files there to the corresponding location on the real My Storage then delete the folder. The only thing being created in the bogus My Storage folder is email attachments from pushmail ActiveSync. Kind of thinking that ActiveSync may have a tendency to initialize faster than the internal storage card. Not finding the inbox, it creates its own, thereby barring the system from correctly naming the internal card. Alternatively, I had a problem running fring from the internal card and now may be seeing the same thing with Skype as well. Also noticed some programs by default want to update data OTA upon an activesync (e.g. Pocket Weather, PocketRSS). If these are on the storage card, they may be blocking ActiveSync's access to the storage card inbox upon a sync, thereby causing the same problem. Downside with that theory is that you'd have to install all autoupdate or pinging programs (weather, rss, VOIP) in system memory to avoid it 100%, but after installing the likes of SPB Mobile Shell most of us only have about 25Mb left to play with, 10Mb of which are easily eaten up by the likes of Opera's cache. God forbid it's a hardware issue. Keep our fingers crossed. Anyone else see this behavior?

I've seen this before on wm2003, 5, and other 6 devices usually with storage cards... and the mail app. So it isn't hardware, its a fundamental flaw in the windows OS.. did I say flaw? I meant to say "feature by design" <_< If you've got it set to save attatchements on a storage card, and that card isn't there, it will create a folder in main storage memory with the name of the storage card instead. When the storage card is back then there is a duplicate folder name, and so the storage card is renamed as storage card 2 It's easy to do if you've taken your storage card out and messaging runs... but the fact that its the My storage is puzzling. Threre is a way of doing it though... if you run the drive as Mass storage i don't think the OS can see it... so it appears that its missing so the problem is there. The fix is as in the above post I haven't tested this as i haven't got my omnia with me at the moment.
Guest keithark Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 can someone help me , i have this my storage 2 bug but when i open it with in file explorer i dont get the option to rename it.some how i have my storage inside of my storage 2
Guest scampcat Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 I have observed that to fix this, I have to go into my mail settings and uncheck the option for storing attachments on the MyStorage location. Then delete the wrong folder, reboot, and it'll fix itself. If you look in the folder before you delete it, you'll probably notice an Inbox folder. For me, that's what fixed it. But now it's using system memory. Poor design.
Guest macoolit Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 (edited) i had this problem, what i did was to delete the mystorage and soft reset. everthing went back. But how do you go to mail settings? Edited September 23, 2009 by macoolit
Guest La Traviata Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 But how do you go to mail settings? Go to your email inbox and from the menu (bottom right) select Menu > Tools > Options and then the Storage tab (last tab).
