Guest Paul (MVP) Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 I think it'd be useful to try and isolate the cause of these occasional brickings. Let's try and build up a profile of devices to see if we can identify beforehand the danger of bricking! For reference my Model is SGH-i900, SSN -i900GSHM, FCCID A3LSGHI900. Please PM ME YOUR DETAILS (the above plus your serial number) for privacy reasons. Remember, a 'bricked' device is one that won't even display the Omnia splash. P
Guest geek78 Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 SGH-I900 - SSN -900GSMH FCCID A3LSGHI900 UPDATED OK (RADIO, PDA... FROM I900 OR I909, 2 OR 3 TIMES/DAY SINCE LAST WEEK)
Guest Jlarsen Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 (edited) I Bought my phone on eBay and got it monday last week. It's a Singapore model and I updated succesfully from i900DXHG3 to i900DXHG4, haven't updated to HH1 or anything else yet, waiting for official firmware. /Jimmi Edited August 28, 2008 by Jlarsen
Guest bulgarian Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 I bricked my first phone updating to official samsung G4 firmware. I got it in canada, it was from singapore since the sing tel sticker was on the back, and tried updating the firmware using active sync and XP. Phone wouldnt turn on afterwards, i got a port create failed. It was on the 3rd day so i went and they exchanged the phone for a new one. I had the guts to try updating again this time using HH1 firmware and this time phone would freeze on boot. I then used the grandprix to update to portugese rom and then to G4 rom. After that i successfully updated to HH1. I am thinking a whole batch of samsung phones was deffective and were bound to fail in the future. I got lucky that my got bricked in the first 3 days so i can exchange it. Didnt want to wait couple of weeks for a new one from samsung
Guest fridgeman Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 SGH-I900 - SSN -900GSMH FCCID A3LSGHI900 Only updated with the official firmware upto now and everything running sweet. Bought the phone end of July in Singapore while on holiday.
Guest VelsM Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 Bricked my OMNIA with HH1 :D Followed latest Paul's guidelines and everything went smooth until the HH1 upgrade finished. Then the phone went completely dead and XP prompted for MONAHANS driver. S/N: R6WQ726780M Hope someone finds a cure for this. I'm in Moscow and can't seem to obtain assistance from Samsung here.
Guest 1Mack Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 (edited) Updated no problems at all with the upgrade. I am well please with the performance  I am looking for the power drain issue that everyone else seems to be having but none to date. I have ben running all day today (from 0600 till now 2000) with games, music, part of a video, SMS and phone calls. Sitting at 40%. The only thing I see that is different is a slight flickering of my finger mouse :D . But I can live with that copared to the other problems I have heard of :D Edited August 30, 2008 by 1Mack

Guest Paul (MVP) Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Just a heads up that i've not been able to find a pattern i'm afraid ;) P
Guest Unisoldrew Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 (edited) Hmmm, am so tempted to go from HH1 to DXHH3 but maybe not after reading these reports?!?!? How long do youguys think it'll be before Samsung release the official up-to-date ROMs? Sorry if that's a silly question but i'm new to these type of phones. Edited September 11, 2008 by Unisoldrew
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 You seem no less likely to brick with the official release updates than with these ones! P
Guest Deroo Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 I went to DXHH3 with my omnia and it's like the phone is on crack now. I have no problems anymore.
Guest respider Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 (edited) I`m afraid to upgrade after reading this topic... the bick seems to be very often... Samsungmobile site is very confusing thanks PS: sorry to post here, dont know if I should create a topic just to ask this, please remove if necessary Edited September 17, 2008 by respider
Guest citrix Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 i bricked my phone. i downloaded HH1 and installed, i followed all the steps correctly, the screen say job done. then next, the phone is dead, no power, i tried all buttons, no red light on power lid, i think it is completely dead. ;) I bought it on ebay, the sell from singapore. seller told me there is warranty because it is imported. I guess lot of people had the problem. anybody found a solution for this yet?
Guest dr.mid Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 (edited) Hello Paul and everyone , I am going to say something could sound stupid  When I connect my phone to the computer and copy files , the devise becomes hot in the back (sorry don't mean it ;) ) I think upgrade process could generate moooore heating , So could be the heating that fries the motherboard (or at least part of it) ? I am really thinking right now of selling my phone since I don't want to stay at the current software and I have no need to have a fried Omnia :( Best regards, Edited September 18, 2008 by dr.mid
Guest tropolite Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 (edited) Hi Mine's bricked for the second time, however this time with the Monahans state and no red power light. The first was not so bad as the Samsung logo was displayed. I've made successful upgrades, probably about 5 times. Howerver the last time it shown the same Success state on the PC but the phone was dead as described by others. Another thing that's always bugged me and I thought that it might be an indicator that the phone hardware verion was possibly at fault was the fact that I could not Hard Reset with the speciifed procedures. The only way I could hard reset was via the software. I bought my Omnia in Singapore from Whymobile online. This was in July 08. This will be a second time my phone gets to go OS again without me. My details SGH-i900 SSN -i900GSHM FCCID A3LSGHi900 SN: PM'ed... Edited October 23, 2008 by tropolite

Guest Kurvenal Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Bricked an Orange UK Omnia (PDA: I900XXHG5/MSHG1, Phone: I900XXHG5, other details sent separately by PM) when trying to flash DXHI3 and got port create error. Managed to exchange for a new one that unlike the first one was delivered SIM unlocked. Have decided to wait until Samsung releases official UK ROM since have confirmed I can get it flashed for free while I wait at a nearby Samsung service point (Carphone Warehouse).

I've had 'port create error' a couple of times but hasn't bricked the phone. I've just soft reset and everything's been ok. I wish someone could tell me how to get the phone part updated as mine seems to crash after the PDA bit?!?!
