Guest wkmmx500 Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 (edited) Hi hi, Am very very pleased with my Omnia 16gb (coming from eten x500). However have one issue/question... :D I'm using my Omnia also as navigation device in the car (works very good with iGo8 - using tweaks found in other forums), and want to connect audio out with my car stereo. Of course that works with provided cable but then I can't connect the charger so my battery is gone within 2-3 hours. I'm doing a lot of travelling so need to have the phone on the charger all the time. Since the Omnia only has one connection port :D , I need a cable that includes both charger as well as audio out. Does something like that exist? Maybe from a compatible older phone from samsung? I've considered getting a stereo bluetooth receiver but then I can't use my car bluetooth handsfree kit anymore. At least I don't think so??? Or maybe a combined usb/audio out - then I could get a special car charger with a usb connection. Does someone have a solution or idea? Thanks... I can think of one way use bluetooth? If you had a bluetooth capable car stereo that is
Guest wkmmx500 Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 I can think of one way use bluetooth? If you had a bluetooth capable car stereo that is Yes that would work I guess but I don't have one and since it's a company car I can't install one. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Guest Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 I spotted this on ebay the other day when I was looking for a car kit... sounds like it might do the job... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-FM-Transmitter-H...id=p3286.c0.m14 And in case anyone is interested in Brodit car holders, I contacted one of their UK resellers and they will be making a car holder for the Omnia and it should be released sometime in September. I didn't ask if they were making a charging holder or a simple holder. Brodit car holders really are the best!
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 I've been liaising with DSL Developments re: the i900 holder, and will have news as soon as it's confirmed and a review as soon as they ship :D P
Guest Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 Good man Paul. Very interested in that review...
Guest Fizz_daz Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 can't wait.. my phone files around the car at the moment <_
Guest DaZelator Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 I spotted this on ebay the other day when I was looking for a car kit... sounds like it might do the job... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-FM-Transmitter-H...id=p3286.c0.m14 Nice: small & simple. However, does not charge your phone... The Venturi Mini Bluetooth Car Kit & FM Transmitter ( http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/15682.htm ) does have a standard USB-out, so you should be able to use your charge/sync cable. Cheers, DaZelator.
Guest flyby Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 yes i think the single connection port is a big problem. I was wonder if there is a Video Out + Charge cable. watching a video for 1.5 hours will render the battery flat! Maybe a desktop charger and spare battery is the only other alternative. =/

I made an assumption there based on the photo and that it had a power source but it appears to only power the transmitter rather than power the transmitter and charge the phone. bummer.

I've been looking for something just like this... most bluetooth devices don't provide charging capabilities... so now I can get this, try and find a USB Omnia charging cable and wait for the Brodit passive cradle and I've got the car kit that I've been looking for. Excellent.

Excellent. You're welcome! For charging accessories I am always looking at the power output, which should be at least 500mA for a normal USB connection (the FMtalk specs state "Accessory: car adapter - Mini USB 5pin, input 12-24V 150mA, output 5V 50mA" so just enough for the small FMtalk box itself). Just crossed my mind: if you do have multiple cigarette lighters / 12V outputs in your car, you could use multiple devices, of course. Splitting cables (with two 12V outputs) are freely available at any automotive shop in case you don't. Cheers, DaZelator.
Guest wkmmx500 Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 I ordered one of these FMTalk FM transmitters (mentioned by golfgti.man) and received it today... Impressions: + does what it's supposed to do : audio out is transmitted over FM so you can receive it on car stereo + tells the Omnia FM radio a cable is connected so Omnia FM radio works as well - but with bad reception due to short/non existing cable to work as antenna so not really usable + easy to adjust FM frequency with two little buttons - FM frequency on FM-Talk is difficult to see by daylight (if at all - I 1st thought the unit wasn't working) - does not charge the Omnia - as already stated/expected in earlier posts - doesn't slide completely into Omnia because of Omnia port cover - but that has no negative impact on functioning Overall: Cheap nifty little thing that transmits audio to car stereo - so for music it can work, for GPS no use because of lacking charger function Conclusion: not what I needed / was looking for (combined audio out and charger) so will look further. Maybe I create my own cable.
Guest mj_blue Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 I am also looking for this combination but didn't have any luck finding anything. I think I am going to go with the IO play bluetooth adaptor for the car. This can replace my current bluetooth kit and I can charge and stream to it. It's ok for company car as it's a simple fit.
Guest FlorianO Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 I am also looking for this combination but didn't have any luck finding anything. Hello all, I'm in the same boat here -- mostly car charger + audio out / headset, but charger + TV out should be interesting too. Yes, the single propietary connector in the Omnia is a PITA. However, come to think of it, HTC is not so much better off either, with their propietary (but mini USB compatible) port either.... It would be great if someone can find the pin specs for the connector (and ideally where to find loose ones).

I also have the Venturi, and it works fine with the omnia. for loading i made my own loading cable as already described here in the forum.
Guest chokia Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 I also have the Venturi, and it works fine with the omnia. for loading i made my own loading cable as already described here in the forum. So the venturi still cannot charge Omnia?
Guest ktgohdt125 Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 what is the exact / min charging voltage for omnia via usb cable......??? my omnia show me charging status when i plug in my home pc usb port.. but not at my friends hse... or brothers house for the car usb charger that i bought yesterday also show no charging status but only a connection sound when i plug in.. the car chrg output spec are 5V DC / 850mA / 5.5V DC t5% i wonder y?? any 1 care to explain?? regards ktgoh
Guest somedude Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 (edited) I HAVE THE SOLUTION!(and you dont have to use a crappy FM transmitter!) BUT, it only works if your car radio has a AUX input! I too use IGO 8 as well as listen to music, so i needed a way to both charge my phone AND have the music/IGO 8 navigation play through my car speakers. I use this bluetooth receiver: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-bAxjBxMtYgT/A...px?i=142DIYBRH2 This plugs into your cars power port and comes with a 3.5 cable to plug into your radios aux input. Of course i use a car charger for the omnia. http://www.amazon.com/Rapid-Auto-Charger-S...8401&sr=1-2 And this is what i use to use the charger and the bluetooth reciever at the same time: http://www.amazon.com/Cigarette-Lighter-Ou...ef=pd_sim_cps_3 All you have to do is plug the receiver AND the charger into the splitter, then pair the omnia with the receiver and connect the omnia to the charger, and thats it. It works well for me and i have been using this for about a week. Edited September 20, 2008 by somedude
Guest sonqquest Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 Any news on the topic? Has anyone managed to find a cable that can be used to listen to music and charge the phone at the same time? This way we can avoid using an external bluetooth device. cheers
Guest projection Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 I have a standard cheap transmitter, which acts as USB host. I think if you put your omnia into "mass storage" mode, it should be able to read MP3 from the omnia AND it should charge it also, using the sync cable. I will test my theory and let you know B)
Guest sonqquest Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 (edited) i have tried in the past using an fm transmitter but the quality was really poor. I have come up with this: http://www.wirelessground.com/sa20pinmuado.html however i ve done some research and found out that it has an m20 pin while the omnia has an s20. I ve also read that it can charge the phone and be used as a headset at the same time I am trying to find out if these have any difference. any ideas??? cheers Edited November 21, 2008 by sonqquest

Guest lufeig Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 i made a DIY audio-video-recharge cable. there is a thread here with instructions for those interested in it. it took me some hours to set everything up, but imho it was worth the time spent on it. now i can watch my movies without having to burn cd's or dvd's. just upload them into my 24gb (16gb internal + 8gb micro sdhc) and carry them to my trips. no need of cd/dvd wallets and dvd standalones!!!
