Playing mms:// stream

I've been trying to get my Diamond to play streamed TV channels, most of which seem to use

mms:// type addresses.

This starts up the standard windows media player, which appears to connect alright but then doesn't play anything.

Is this because it isn't up to the job, or is there some cunning tweak that is required to get it working.

I've seen mention of coreplayer (which i'll buy if needs be), but being a cheap skate would sooner find a free solution if possible :D

Seems to have gone quite quiet around here since the initial flurry of phone releases.

Everyone comparitively happy with their Diamond/Compact IV's I guess.

Just wondering whether anyone had any thoughts on my problem above?
