locked omnia

ok....I have been lucky enough to be given an omnia by Samsung today after attending their UK press launch, but having got home and put my SIM card (vodafone) in the device it is showing a Network lock and asking me for the pin for my SIM card. I don't have any kind of SIM protection on my normal phone and cannot understand why this is. I can't believe that they would be handing out locked phones to the media as freebies....anyone got any ideas? I know I can ring their PR people in the morning, but just wondered if there is anyone out there who is a) awake and :D knows what the score is here...
