Guest ATLx Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 Hi all. I have a great data plan with my phone and wanted to know if it was possible to plug my phone into the computer and use it as a modem. Does anyone know how? thanks Alex
Guest berrymwb Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 Hi Yes. Quite straightforward. Just plug the USB Cable into the phone / PC, then on the Omnia select 'Internet Sharing' under 'Programs' and bob's your uncle. Have fun!

Connect your phone to your computer via usb cable and start the "Internet Connection Sharing" application on your phone. Choose "Cable" and enjoy surfing the internet...
Guest ATLx Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 Wow, you guys are amazing. Thank you so much

Hmm, maybe you have to install some drivers? I am not sure if you have to. Because I have installed the modem driver to flash my ROM before.

Because I have installed the modem driver to flash my ROM before. All I got with the phone was a windows mobile cd, which I installed. There wasn't any driver, not even a pdf instruction manual in the box. Do you know where I could get the driver that needs to be installed? Should I have had another cd-rom apart from the one with windows mobile when I bought the phone? Thanks a lot for your help

For the modem driver you can try the official Omnia ROM update site. There you can chose either XP or Vista (the country doesn't matter; pick just a random one because you're going to download the modem driver only). On the new page click on the button in the middle labeled "Samsung modem driver Download". Or for quick download Modem Driver for XP (click) and Modem Driver for Vista (click). I guess this driver is also needed to use the Omnia as modem and not just for flashing ROM. At least the driver name implies it so. Good luck!
Guest pidsw Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 If you are using a generic unbranded ROM I think that you should ignore what your providers tell you to do and just run internet sharing and select "Connect" then plug your phone into your computer and it should show up as a network card in your network connnections. I am not sure if this is the case, but you may need to turn on "enable advanced (whatever)" in the USB to PC setting of the control panel. Also, I have heard that in WM6.1 providers can detect if you are using ICS, I install ICS from WM6.0 as part of my standard setup so I don't know if this is the case. (I do this partly because "tethering" costs me a lot as I do not have a plan for it)
