Turn on USB Mass Storage mode to improve USB charging.

I thought of that too..nope... still doesnt work.. with 'mass storage' USB turn on. I heard PPSG forum some one mention registry editing to turn on... USB charging on/off..need testing

you need to go into the registry in order to make this happen...before that, you will need a registry editor to start things with...after installing the registry editor, navigate to HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\Usbfndrv\EnableUsbCharging. 0 = off while 1 = on. for your information, EnableUsbCharging is a DWORD data... courtesy of 'Rivaldo'

sorry paul... phone is out of battery at work.. from 'mucking around' all day (upgrading/installing etc.).. .. cant recharge.. ;) via USB with either 'storage mass/or 'active sync mode'.. could not test the above message... anyone has any bright idea!. OR need to buy second main power cord for work... or wait... for power cord/TV out splitter would be a great idea

Same here, H2 rom.

But usb charging is working, though it's slow.

Note that it won't charge if the phone is turned off, or active sync not installed (except for mass storage mode)

Mmmh, maybe I spoke too fast, since my phone has just shutdown due to low battery, while it was synced ;)

Could it be related to the power the USB ports supply?

I know at work that the HP desktops we have are not man enough to power certain devices like portable HDD so in some cases it's technically possible to have the same charging effect I would have thought.

Hm... my Diamond charges quite well on usb and synced.. This is a real problem for me because i use my phone a lot as a modem...

Does anyone out there still have this problem? I do!

I've recently brought the sync and charge cradle. The phone says its charging but is actually losing charge, after a few hours sat in the cradle all plugged in it warns me about having a low battery.

Is it just me?

Nop not just you. happens to me and it's really anoying too. Anyone have a fix for it yet. I've tried all sorts of modes and USB ports to see what will help but it keeps discharging the battery instead or recharging it.

It defenitely charges with standard out-of-the box USB cable for me, with firmware HI1. Its not very fast, but definite charge after several hours - I am able to keep my i900 topped using USB port and data cable only.

However recently I've bought a retractable USB cable from Gomadic, and it won't charge thru it. It will show "charging" light, but after several hours you'll see that phone actually lost charge.

It may be same with third-party cradles.

Must be something tricky with "proper" layout of USB cable pins to make it charge.

Can anyone who has tried confirm whether this works or not.

Most replies dont seem to answer this specifically.

Thanks

I've looked but that registry key doesn'r even exist on the omnia.

I'm using the USB cable that came with the phone.

This key is for some HTC devices, its useless on Omnia since it has different usb driver.

Not a real solution but I recently bought a USB charger (and 2 spare batteries) from e-bay. This combination at least means that I have a powered Omnia whenever I need it.

@uj - yes that is a solution, but one I wish to avoid if I possibly can. haha

I can confirm this... it charges (slowly) with the original Samsung USB cable, but with a spare one I bought from ebay, it does not seem to charge at all... if I look at the connector, the spare one has an extra pin connected...

Hi All,

I can confirm this as well, i have the original samsung USB cable and a 3rd party i got from Ebay...

The original samsumg charges via USB , its slower than mains , but it does charge. The 3rd party cable will only sync data , but will not charge...

I keep the original cable at work so i can charge my phone there as well, and use the 3rd party at home where i have my mains charger.

So if you want to be able to charge battery via USB it best to pay a few dollars more and get the original cable.

Another thing i noticed was that the Ebay cable was actually Listed for the U900, but seller sold as it suits i900 as well, 3rd party cable has a U900 sticker on it.

Didnt know that when i bought this cable otherwise i would have gone for the original...

Regards

I got an "OEM Samsung" ebay cable that was listed for the i900 along with a bunch of other Samsung phones and it actually discharges the battery at a very swift rate <_< None too pleased about that. It looks just like my original one that came with my Omnia (and the original one does charge in either activesync or mass storage mode) but the model number is different on the ebay one. Well, at least it does sync as it drains my battery into oblivion

I bought an original Samsung one from Ebay too and I experience the exact same problem.

Swift discharge when sync'd.

I have emailed the seller, i will let you know how i get on.

This is also a problem with the Samsung I780. Here's what's up: Either you can have ActiveSync activated, and that's *all* the USB cord will do, or you can unload ActiveSync and the USB cord will charge the phone. This program is specifically designed to temporarily unload ActiveSync: http://micrologics.co.uk/library/ast/

Sounds goofy, and it's a clumsy workaround, but you'll see it works.
