Updating to WM6.1 and Sprite Backup - A Warning!

I had the 'pleasure' of updating my BJII to WM6.1 two days ago. You can read more on my thoughts about the process over at the Smartphone Thoughts Thread on the topic, but I wanted to post a piece of advice here.

If like me, you are using the excellent Sprite Backup to keep your phone Data and Settings readily available when a Hard Reset or ROM Update fall into your lap, then be aware of the following.

I was using Sprite Backup v6.1 (a funny coincidence no?). I backed up my phone to both the memory card and my PC. I was then notified by Sprite that there was an update available to the Sprite engine, taking it up to 6.2.2. I figured this was good time to have the latest version to re-install my Settings & Data after the ROM update. My Mistake!

After the WM6.1 Update, I asked Sprite Backup to re-install my Settings and Data via the "ROM Update" option. That's when I found out the the backup logs created with Sprite Backup v6.1 are NOT compatible with version 6.2.2! ;)

Why in heaven Sprite wouldn't WARN you about his via a splash screen BEFORE updating the software is beyond me, but they didn't.

So, if you are about to update to WM6.1 and think you will use your old Sprite Backup files, think again!

The obvious choices are to: 1) NOT update Sprite Backup until AFTER re-installing your Settings and Data to your phone, AFTER it has been re-flashed to WM 6.1, or 2) Updating Sprite to v6.2.2, backing up your phone using the new version of Sprite, and only then updating to WM6.1 and subsequently re-flashing your phone.

This is an unusual F@#$-up by an otherwise solid company which sells essential software that rocks, so don't let it put you off getting or using Sprite Backup, just be aware that the order you update will make a difference!
