I rebuilt mine a couple of times since upgrading due to other reasons. First time it would take 5 minutes to sync with GPS. Second time a little faster. Now on the 3rd hard reset it is really fast. I'm using Google Maps. All I can say is maybe do a hard reset and test GPS first to see if it starts working. Other posts confirm it's a hit/miss thing though not sure why. As of now I'm happy mine syncs up in less than 15 seconds to at least 3 satellites inside an office building.

;) WARNING! A HARD RESET WILL RE-SET THE ROM TO THE LAST FLASHED STATE

(ie your most recent Operating System in the ROM - If you have correctly upgraded to WM6.1 you will STILL have WM6.1 after the Hard Reset)

ALL YOUR DATA AND INSTALLED PROGRAMS WILL BE IRRETRIEVABLY LOST!!

BACK UP YOUR PHONE FIRST!!!!!

Whew :(

That said, to Hard Reset:

Turn Phone off..hold directional pad UP while turning the phone back on. Follow directions on screen

FYI, my BJII GPS was DOA until I installed the MoDaCo GPS patch which you can find here: http://www.modaco.com/content/smartphone-s...-gps-activated/

After that, it runs like lightening on Google Maps. It even works with Sprite Terminator!

So good luck!

My GPS was not working either.

I run GPSID Settings and put COM4, (None), 19200 and checked "Manage Automatically" box.

Now it works fine, and its way faster to fix the gps compared to wm6.

I don't get it. When I first did the Wm6.1 update the GPS was lighting fast, next day it took a long time to lock, and the next day it didn't work at all. So last night I did a hard reset and the GPS was lighting fast again. Picked up the phone this morning and it won't lock again. I haven't installed anything. The only thing I did do was sync this morning prior to checking the GPS again. So I tried the GPSID mentioned above, with the above settings and it doesn't seem to have made any difference. Still no lock.

BTW, I used M$ Live Search the first install and Google Maps after last night's hard reset. They both work initially, but a couple of days later...dead.

MadSci,

Are you saying that the MoDaCo patch is still needed with WM6.1 or were you referring to WM6.0?

In my case I needed it for both WM 6/0 & after flashing to 6.1

I seem to have been insanely lucky, but your post made me paranoid as I hadn't used the GPS for mapping for a couple of days.

So I just started Google maps, without the "My Location" feature active the GPS took only 20 seconds to grab my position based upon signals from 8 satellites!

And this was indoors at my desk, which is a corner office with windows on both sides.

It also worked perfectly with Sprite Terminator once the software was fully activated.

So I don't know why there is so much difference in your GPS performance, I am in the habit of resetting (via power off and on) my phone every night. If I don't do this the built-in Alarm App often fails to ring at the appointed hour due to a memory problem (often involving 'clocknot'), so I have come to believe that WM still has some pretty bad memory management issues. THis might be why your performance is degrading over time.

It's also possible the MoDaCo patch has done some great Voodoo for me!

You might want to try: to do your Voodoo as I do! ;)

Good luck!

My phone doesn't work either.

Even on WM6, I had to enable/disable in Garmin to get it to work. Sometimes it would find COM4 right away, others not. Even though COM4 is all I had selected it searched anyways.

I did the exact same hack on my friends BJ2, and it worked perfectly, never had to set ANYTHING, disable, enable, or whatever.

Now on WM6.1 my phone won't do GPS at all. Sucks. I have no idea what the issue is, and I am pretty sure I won't find a resolution given that I couldn't even get it working well with WM6. If you ask for help you just get a lot of posts from people who say it worked so great for them, and you must be doing something wrong, like their phone is the end all sampling of the world.

It is very frustrating. The GPS was on my short list of reasons for buying this phone. I had no idea that it had these issues. I did just do another hard reset, installed the MoDaCo GPS unlocker first thing and it appears to be working very well. I'm not holding my breath though because for me it has always worked great right after the hard reset. At some point in time, installing something, syncing, or something is causing it to stop working. I am doing my best to find out what I'm doing that is causing it to stop working. I'll report back any information that I can.

Hey! I got it to work by updating my Garmin to the latest version from their website. Can't believe it.

Bit the bullit and did the hard re-set after nothing else worked, not even tel-nav addition

-After hard re-set it started to work, so far everything thing is good, fast sat. lock

now hope it stays that way!

I'm reporting back on my GPS findings. I did a hard reset and installed the MoDaCo hack first thing. Then I installed MS Live Search and Google Maps. (I'm sure one or the other will work fine, I installed both for testing). All is working fine for several days now.

A couple of notes:

I have found that I must go outside for my testing. I can get a lock indoors but it was unreliable enough that sometimes it would try for several minutes and not lock. So I go outside and get a lock. Sometimes it would take 5 seconds and sometimes 50 seconds. It wasn't very consistent but it is working.

Also,

I have seen some posts where people don't understand that the MoDaCo hack opens COM4 to the GPS unit rather than "fixing" the intermediate driver. For this reason you will have to edit the GPS options in your mapping software to look at COM4 instead of "intermediate driver". I am using Com4 and baud 19200.

With the latest Garmin Mobile XT and Google Maps Mobile... you don't need the Modaco GPS Hack . In fact, it can cause conflicts with the software since both of the latest software use the Intermediate Drivers and not COM4.

You will also need to keep your Deleted Items, Draft, Inbox, Outbox and Sent Items as clean as possible. This will cause the GPS software to run really slow for some damn reason.

FYI, at this point I'm also having good fortune with GPSed, which is starting up the GPS unit on its own and locking on in a few seconds.

Good luck!
