Guest LessThanSte Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 So it was bound to happen. Butterfingers here has dropped yet another gadget, and my beautiful diamond was it. As i climbed out of our work delivery van earlier, i hadnt noticed my bag strap caught round my leg and suddenly found a pile of cd's, sweets, pens and, disturbingly, phones on the road. There was the Diamond, sunbathing in the middle of the road. Happily, it coped quite well. Didnt even require a reboot or anything, as if nothing had happened. The same cant be said about the case though. Theres some scratches at the top of the back cover (not a biggy really) but most obvious is the dent on the bottom corner, right next to the stylus. Its on that bit which is either metal or plastic (plastic i think) and is pretty obvious. So my diamond isnt pretty anymore ;) *cue some sad music, Adagio for Strings perhaps* Now, i didnt take out insurance with Orange when i got the phone a few weeks back mainly because im a student and cant afford another 6 quid a month. With that in mind, does anyone know they best cosmetic surgeon that can make her look beautiful again? Would Orange and/or HTC be able to do repairs and would it cost me a fortune? Is the part replaceable (im guessing no as it appears to make up the majority of the phone)? Also, where can i get my paws on a new back cover and, finally, which is the best case to go for that keeps it as easy to use as if it were naked, doesnt add a great deal to the dimensions, looks sexy and is able to survive a lifetime with Mr Butterfingers?
Guest jimbles90 Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 if its the battery back thing surely you can buy one of ebay or something pretty cheap?
Guest SSR Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 HTC will repair it, and most likely it won't be cheap.

Mobile-fun.co.uk sell the back cover, the front touch screen, the LCD display you'll have to open it up yourself and invalidate your warranty. Hope you have a ultrafine screwdriver set.

Orange may do you a deal, I didn't have insurance for my first handset. I complained vehemently about the life of the battery, offered me the insurance and a new handset was with me the following day. The insurance is on a monthly contract and can be cancelled at any time. Be careful of fraud, be upfront and honest with them and explain this has already happened, I'm sure they are targetted on insurance sales and like I said they may do you a deal.

Did you get a slip case with yours? I got one but I have not been using it because I also applied the screen protector and if I use the slip case it starts peeling up a little! bah. I then got a sort of rubber "skin" case but I dunno.... the diamond gets waaaaay hot when using GPS so I am not sure enclosing it in rubber is wise so I did not use it!
Guest T39andcounting Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 I've always gone for the Orange insurance... and I think I've probably done well out of it. I think I had at least 3 new HTC Hermes out of them in my last 18 month contract, and I figure I'll probably drop/loose/break somehow my phone at least every 6 months! With a high value phone like the diamond, it's worth having. Also, Orange will often do you a free insurance deal when you sign up to a contract, so it doesn't usually actually cost £6! One thing to note is that I'm not sure cosmetic damage (that doesn't stop you using the phone) would be covered, so it may not actually help you in this situation. If it is more than cosmetic, and you still don't like the idea of Orange insurance, check your household policy (may be covered) or even your bank account... my NatWest account comes with free mobile insurance, although the phone has to be registered with them before the event.

Yep I second that! it might be covered by house insurance - my bank account also gives me phone cover as part of the services, I did have to register though for it so it was not automatic.
