Guest Quist09 Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 I got my unit from Singapore via Expansys and it came with DXHG4/DXHG4 (PDA/Radio) on it. Things were a little buggy, but the worst thing was the lack of haptic feedback and finger scrolling. I then upgraded to DXHH1/DXHG4 with the reconstructed PDA only .exe ROM and was quite happy. BUT I noticed several of my programs installed to the onboard 16GB card (My Storage) would intermittently cut out. Then one day I got unusually good battery life and took a closer look. Turned out the phone had lost connectivity with the onboard card. When it was initially restored, programs installed there didn't work properly as ActiveSync/Messaging had created its own My Storage folder on the system disk to put email attachments in and the card was relegated to My Storage2. Renaming the folder and a soft reset solved the problem for the time being. I then began looking for solutions. Figured my issue was the fact that I hadn't formatted the onboard card in conjunction with the PDA ROM upgrade and old programs had become ghosts in the machine. Seeing as I had to hardreset and reformat the card to solve the issue, decided to upgrade to the official leaked DXHH3/DXHH3. Within hours of the upgrade I could see the battery disappearing fast. So I installed XXGH5 radio only on top of it to fix it. Here again, I didn't reformat the card since the PDA ROM was untouched. Everything worked well, but suddenly the pushmail ActiveSync connection had a hard time getting connected. Hardreset and reformatted to no avail. Then, after about half a day, it began to get more reliable. Now I don't want to flash unnecessarily, and since ActiveSync seems to be calming down, I'll wait a few days to see how it goes. Battery life on DXHH3/XXGH5 is better than DXHH3/DXHH3, but still not as good as DXHH1/DXGH4 was. Then again, it appears the repetitive syncs and frequent ActiveSync heartbeats are making a dent and my earlier set-up was probably saving loads of power by disconnecting the onboard card and not allowing programs run from there to access online updates. Also found out that, while the battery meter is a mathematical function of the battery capacity/charge AND an estimate of the power being consumed or trend thereof (i.e. not a fixed battery charge value), it has an impact on operations since when the program detects what it thinks is about 5% or less of capacity left, it will turn off the phone (like half of a softreset) even if the battery has more of a charge on it. 1. Anybody have a true success story in PDA/Radio combos in terms of (a) battery life, (b) stability and © functionality? If so, where'd you get the ROM .exes, .imgs or .bin files and how did you install them? 2. Anybody notice a problem with ActiveSync pushmail after a ROM upgrade?
Guest superpc Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 I am using DXHH3/DXHH3 combo. what can i say is amazing battery life, i'm having 40% left after 1 and half day, nearly 40hours with a lot of web surfing, sms and playing around with the phone. what i did was a thorough hard reset after flashing, i.e. clearing storage folder and hard reset the phone. there are some bugs here and there thou, not as stable as HH1 IMO, some applications get error report camera sometimes pop up with not enough memory message if i have ThumbCal running on background opera that comes with the ROM doesn't work well, almost impossible to scroll the page, very sluggish, ended up installing the opera cab downloaded somewhere else. one more thing if i disable threaded SMS, there will be no notification tone on receiving new SMS overall not that satisfied with the ROM, but battery life is absolutely amazing
Guest evilworm Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Talking about anomalies... my device has some serious faults. I got it with DXHG4 preloaded. Everything seemed ok at the first moment, however I got some problems during the first day. Whenever I use the phone for more than 5 minutes, it gets a bit warm and my motion sensor stops responding. Also the wifi gets unresponsive as the device gets warmer. Seems that it loads data with some kinda bursts every 20-30 seconds - it loads ~50kb of data and then a long delay, then again 50kb of data and so on. And the best of all - if the motion sensor stops working, then if I switch off the screen (suspend mode), I cannot switch it on again. Screen responds to touches, but it is completely black. Sometimes the power button flashes in red or green color. Only one solution - soft reset. Anyways, I upgraded to HH3, but it didn't help. Again if the device gets a bit warm, it starts to malfunction. Now I'm a sad sad panda, coz I ordered the phone from ebay...

I have ordered 2 nice working machines from ebay and no problems what so ever. Try flashing HH3 twice and a hard reset. Have you checked your running tasks to see if you have to many apps running at the same time? Mine does get warm at times but only when it is plugged in and I am doing some serious transfering or the battery is really low. To the OP I have been using HH3 radio and PDA with great results for speed and battery. Edited September 15, 2008 by 1Mack
Guest bobsbbq Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 I'm using H3 with I2 phone and it is the best. Better battery life than H3 and the phone signal is stronger.
Guest Top_Cat Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 I upgraded from XXHG5 pda & phone to DXHH3 pda & phone using the full exe from here http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-omnia-h...re-version-fix/ If you want instructions on how to use it you can find them here on page 2 http://www.modaco.com/content-page/272065/...ppened/page/20/ Its pretty simple takes about 10minutes from start to hard resetting phone after upgrade. One thing i noticed actually was that the new build of Opera runs atleast 2x quicker than it did before and the Wifi connection seems quicker too ;) Also having no problems with battery life or stability. Everything running smooth
Guest evilworm Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 As I recall, I did about 5 reflashes (HH3) and hard resets (even tried the 3-button-on-startup hard reset trick). There are no 3rd party apps installed on the device and I always close any running app, but it still fails with the black screen. It sometimes even fails on the startup after the "Omnia" logo switches to the "samsung" logo. The screen just goes completely dead.
