What are the benefits of this software update for my phone?

The software upgrade for your HTC Touch Diamond improves performance, stability and battery life.

How do I download the latest software update?

Before you upgrade to the latest version of ROM software, please ensure that:

you have backed up all of your personal data

while performing the ROM Update, all of your data and settings will be erased from your phone. It is necessary to back up all of your personal data (contacts, appointments, tasks) using Active Sync.

it is suggested that you save content such as music, ringtones, pictures onto you laptop or memory card.

your PC is running Windows® 98, 2000, XP or vista. Your battery has 50% or more charge.

Note: be aware that you cannot use your phone during the installation and you will not be connected to the network.

You will need to reconfigure your E mail settings once updated.

Windows installation instructions:

connect the device to your PC using your USB cable. An activesync pop up should indicate that you are connected. Do not remove this cable during the installation process.

click on the ROM link below and choose to save the file to your PC

Once download is complete double-click the file and follow all instructions in the installation wizard that will appear on screen. If the current and new ROM are the same version you can still re-install, this can often cures problems.

you can save the ROM to a file on your PC for reinstalling later or to upgrade several phones from one download.

once the installation begins you will see the install shield and integrity testing complete before the upgrade starts

when the ROM upgrade begins your phone will display a red,

green and blue (bootloader) screen, a progression bar will appear on

your PC and the phone will show progress towards 100%.

once installed your phone will install the ROM and restart.

Anyone tested this version yet?

Will the update wipe out the internal storage (4GB) also?

Should I backup files manually or use something like sprite backup?

Cheers

A ROM update won't affect anything on the internal stoarge, but applications installed there will have their registration codes removed, as the registry entries will be deleted.

Us a manual backup for files in the Storage Memory- Sprite and SpB BAckup both have modes for restoring after a ROM update, but it can still be a very dicey affair as you risk overwriting the newer files with older ones from the backup when you restore.

I've only just run this update. First thing I noticed it that they've removed the animation! The x doesn't have a box around it any more either.

Scrolling through texts doesn't seem as fluid now.

This may be a placebo effect, but I think that the radio is slightly improved. Parts of my desk get signal where they didn't before, although it's still 2 bars in its usual location.

I do need to go through the tweak I did before though to see what else has changed. I'm hoping the screen stays on for a bit longer in calls

A little advice please. I have a HTC (I believe) original ROM. This is the data from the boot screen

5.164.2410/m0nx

R 1.71.09.01

G 25.75.40.02

eMo 3.ROMeoS.4

Its also unlocked. It's just the basic WM6.1 format. Couple of questions, please, will this O Rom give me any of the HTC brndin touchflo etc ? Will it remove the unlocked status from the device.

Totallynew to this flashing thing so any help gratefully received.

Steve

Hi Rob,

Which version of the Radio have they included? (Start-> Settings-> System-> Device Information-> Radio Version).

I've got 1.00.25.07 on mine (upgraded using the instructions on the XDA developers site) and it seems to be better than the original Orange version.

This version contains the 1.00.25.05 Radio, which is the standard HTC release. The core ROM is also standard HTC.

@Stevepool: Flashing the ROM will not remove the unlock status. Can you tell us which ROM versions your has, as explained in the above post by T39...

Anybody else had problems adding new words? Mine hung twice. Seems fine now though. I have to say I'm not incredibly impressed with this new ROM. I can't see any performance increase and I've lost the animations

Radio version is the same as Neil said.

While all the programs installed to internal storage can still be run by running from their respective Program Files file, all the shortcuts have been removed from the main Touch FLo (and Windows Mobile) program list.

Does anybody know how to re-establish these shortcuts?

That is not the official rom. That is a cooked rom.

Just muck about with the completion options.

Just reinstall the programs.

Well, I've loaded up the new ROM and things do seems to whizz along a bit quicker and battery life is some 20-25% better.

HOWEVER, there is one problem - I cannot change the input method from compact qwerty Mad All the various options (including keyboard which I want) are there but no matter what I do it always reverts back to bloody compact qwerty Evil or Very Mad

Anyone else seen this and am I missing something basic here? I definatley didn't have any issue changing input style before so suspect issue arises from ROM update. I am loathe to reload the new ROM because of all the stuff I have to re-set afterwards but if there's no option....

Waiting with fingers crossed

Just reinstall the programs.

If anybody else needs to re-establish the shortcuts Resco File explorer has an option to add a shortcut. Just tap and hold on the respective program file and select Send To> Start Menu as Shortcut. It adds the shortcut to both the windows Program screen as well as the TF3D one.

Hope this helps

I've installed the upgrade with no problems.

First impressions are that the animation has gone from touch-flow ...... and thats it. It still lost 10% battery overnight, and I can't see any noticable speed change.

Only good thing I did notice is that its cleared some of the crap I had loaded so there is a bit more memory available!

Same here, no noticable speed or battery improvements.

I've also noticed that I tend to get echo's in calls more often now (ie hear myself) - this could be due to the updated radio rom.

One big annoyance for me is when you go to "Settings->System->Power->Advanced->Turn off device if not used for", if you untick this, it doesnt get remembered across a soft reset.

Also I can't seem to stop the backlight dimming itself after around 30 seconds. I like to have mine on full at times during the day and this is an annoyance which I can't seem to figure out ;)

I'm getting less than 24 hours with very little usage with the official orange 1.93 rom, wifi off bluetooth off but push email on. Yesterday I sent a couple of texts and received a few emails. I've toyed with duttys rom which was an improvement over the original stock rom but it made me wary on warranty issues so installed the official orange 1.93. I spoke to orange about the battery issues and they told me to have the phone in gsm mode and turn push email off, ok this will improve my battery life but surely thats not the point. I have a phone which is fantastic but if I want to use it for more than a day I have to switch all the toys off. I've resorted to having chargers at home in the car and in the office. Personally I think the biggest issue is that Orange have an appalling reception in my area, the phone is straining to get a signal. The Orange website says I should get 3g service and high quality voice (only if I stand in the porch) I also don't get HDSPA at home. I'm beginning to regret buying the htc diamond - only 16 months left on my contract....

I've never really had a problem with battery life - it manages a day easily and I charge it overnight (I got used to doing that on my tytn).

My usage is usually:

up to a meg of downloading emails / browsing / google maps - no push mail. split between GPRS/HSDPA/WiFi

maybe half an hour of gps

15-20 mins of phone calls

a few texts

I usually have over 50% battery left when I go to bed (it's off charge for about 17 hours per day).

I did get a spare battery from ebay which surprisingly is a 1340mAh (according to HTC battery test tool) which I leave in my car.

Sorry to go OT but do you still have a link for that, or the name of the seller, or anything about the description? Thanks.

The one I got from ebay was:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=380051623307

It says 900mAh in the listing, but the htc tools app says it's 1340 (whereas the original one shows as 900). I seem to get very similar life out of it, and it's the same size, which makes me lean towards the testing tool being wrong.

But 2 batteries and a charger for under £10 is a pretty good deal ;)

Nice spot, mine is on its way....

Another thing Ive noticed, is that now the RAM use is about 10% more.

Previously, after boot RAM would be 51% and after a while would go up to about 62%. After the ROM update, with the same software reloaded in the same place (mostly to the internal storage) the RAM use is about 55% just after boot, and then hovers around the 72% mark

If you're after separate batteries as back up I would recommend the above. My spare batteries tend to last a day longer than my official battery. Only issue was that the charger didn't fit with the HTC cable. Fortunately I had an old motorola cable which fits like a glove.
