Guest mobad Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 After reading pretty much of the threads I was unable to find a solution for upgrading the ROM on the Omnia when using VISTA. My Omnia is on the Orange UK Network and has the version XXHG5. I followed the instruction but I keep getting the Invalid Software Version error message. Here are the steps I followed - 1. Downloaded the 3 programs - Active Sync, Driver and Rom Update (off the Offical Samsung website for Vista). 2. Tried to Update rom when connected through USB but no luck. 3. I then tried changing the Settings of the phone to match Singapore and then France. 4. Waited for the phone to hard reset and then tried again once synced but again the same error message. It seems ive followed all instructions correctly but the issue maybe as im on VISTA. I don't have XP so is there anything else I can try?
Guest Ingvarr Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 You need a modem driver for vista and ROM update made by Samsung for Vista and not for XP. Currently most of update versions leaked for XP only. You can get Vista updates from Samsung site, the new one is only French HH2 i think.

I've used the modem driver for Vista and the ROM is said to be for VISTA as well. Any more suggestions pls?
Guest Ingvarr Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 (edited) Have you changed the phone region to match the region of firmware you trying to flash? You can find instructions on how to do this in the sticky post about firmwares. Edited September 14, 2008 by Ingvarr

Guest Dazsalt Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Hi Mobad. I also have (had !) the Orange HG5, but couldn't get any of the official Samsung downloads to install (Incorrect version). Guess we are scuppered until they release a UK one there. I did, out of curiosity, try the T-mobile HH5 version, which works fine, but it's XP only. You will need to find an XP machine to try that though - I'm running XP inside a VMWARE virtual machine to achieve it on my Vista laptop, as VMWARE supports the USB remapping necessary for XP to see the phone. This is however, getting into "risky" territory when it comes to turning your phone into a brick. If you want to wait a few days for my experiences or those of others, feel free. The t-mobile ROM works fine but there appears to be no way to reset the operator settings (automatically). I can get internet functioning by changing the connection settings back to Orange and I'm not keen on the t-mobile branding. It's certainly "noisy", every normal "beep" has been turned into a fanfare ! Daz.
