Guest lentini Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 (edited) Anyone else having really random battery performance with their Omnia? I've been running HH3 for about a week and my battery levels seem all over the place. Sometimes I leave it charging until it's showing 100%, leave it unplugged all night and when I wake up it's still at 100%. Other nights it's at 100% and then in the morning it's dropped to 40%, even though it's not been touched at all. Wifi and Bluetooth are switched off. Other times it's showing it fully charged and when I unplug it, it drops to 90% straight away. Would this be a problem with the HH3 ROM or do you reckon I've got a duff phone? EDIT: I using an unbranded Orange phone Edited September 22, 2008 by lentini

Do you try to charge by computer's USB port by any chance? Make sure that you charge device until power button lits continuous green and not red. Only then device will be truly fully charged.
Guest mj_blue Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Hi Lentini, I have exactly the same issue with Battery as you, same odd behaviour:Battery dropping to 90% straight away70% when I go to bed, Dead battery when I wake up had a low battery warning last night, so plugged it in overnight and when I woke up, the warning was still showing and it still showed 10%I am using T-MObiles ROM which I believe is HH5? Then I don't touch it for 8 hours and it drops to something stupid like 50%. Very annoying at the moment ;) Edited September 15, 2008 by lentini
Guest Ingvarr Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 nope, via the 'wall' charger I always charge it until it's green, even then it sometimes drops to 90% straight away Try to charge it till green, leave on charge for about hour. Then use device without charging and connecting via USB until it completely runs out of battery and dies. This should calibrate the battery indicator.

Guest LoveGod Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 i've seen problems similar to yours When i upgraded to HH1 i had the same problem as you do. After upgrading to HH3 i read somewhere that it's recommended to do a hard reset after upgrading. So i did, i'm on HH3 and battery life is perfect again. Try it ;)
Guest IZIIZI Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 this happened to me on H1. I was on G5 where my battery would last 3 days - needless to say I sacrificed the newer roms for my G5 orange rom. I havnt charged my phone since friday and i have 30% battery. 99% sure this is a software fault. when it was happening to me the back of the phone was getting warm also.
Guest protts Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 just to add something else that i noticed..... sometimes when i plug the charger in the batt would jump from like 40% to 70% in 5mins other times it remains at 40% for an hour then suddenly jumps to 70%. funny. hard reset after flashing the device to HH3 but will try the full charge to full discharge method mentioned above...

Switched to H3 now cant really comment on difference because i've been using alot on 3g/ wifi web music, videos etc. But i do remember reading somewhere that if you dont hard reset after upgrade battery problems are common. All i can say is i hard reset after upgrade and battery seems fime, charges fully till green light on, no random change in battery charge during use. Did you hard reset after you upgraded ROM?
Guest lentini Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Did you hard reset after you upgraded ROM? I can't remember if I did for definite so I'm reflashing now to give it a try. Do you hard-reset once it's done all it's rebooting and you do the first configuration?

Guest lentini Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 how do you hard reset? is it with a pin in the top? no, that's the soft-reset. There's an icon in Settings that'll do a Hard-Reset
Guest martinsa Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 I have a T-Mobile i900, and I am experiencing very bad battery life. I will leave it on change all night… and the initial battery will drop very quickly down to about 50% (after 5 hours) and then down to about 20% after a further 5 hours…. So I always have to charge my phone at work, just to get through the day! (Usage:- No GPS, no Wi-Fi, 3 or 3 calls, 2 or 3 SMS’s, read a few web pages, push email.) One reason that I went for the i900 was that reviews said its battery life was better than the Diamond… with the current T-Mobile rom this does not seem to be the case! … and my Touch Dual managed to last the whole day with battery life to spare! ROM: PDA : i900XXHH7/BOHH5 PHONE : i900BOHH2 Anyone know if there is a Newer ROM with better battery life, I could flash? Cheers, Martin.
Guest willo Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Martin, I also have the Omnia from T-Mobile which I received on Friday, I was going to leave it standard but after 1 hour of playing around with it, I found the menus to slow so I upgraded the rom to HH3. The menu's seem to run much faster and its got rid of the T-Mobile software and returned it to Vanilla. I did an all night charge on Saturday, from 10am Sunday morning till now I still have 40% and that’s with about 10 txt's, 2 calls, email (8 times), 3 hours playing music. Because I didn't keep the T-Mobile rom I have no idea if it’s the rom that's draining your battery, but I suspect it is. If I was only getting 70% power in 10 hours the Omnia would be winging its way back to T-Mobile. Hope this helps.
Guest superpc Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Please do a hard reset for those who're experiencing battery problem it's always a good practice to hard reset after flashing a rom, this applies to every single device out there i owned a diamond, and if i didn't hard reset after flashing rom, there would be a lot of problem... i am having amazing battery life with my HH3 combo

PDA : i900XXHH7/BOHH5 PHONE : i900BOHH2 It sounds like it will upgrade the Phone, and downgrade the PDA… Did you loose any functionality with the HH3 rom? Is this the ROM Thanks again!
Guest Nyjumpman23 Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 When you first got the phone, did charge your fone full, then drain it till it died out? I think thats the proper method.. DO a full charge on new phone, let it drain, full charge again, do a 2nd drain, and then the phone's battery will sublet itself to normality, where it can last longer. But based on what it seems, it could be due to the ROM your using. As suggested prior, try hard reset.
Guest efjay Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 I find the Omnia's battery does not stand up to heavy use, and the comments of people here seem to bear that out as the pattern seems to be with light use eg a few phone calls, SMS, light browsing the battery life appears to be adequate. However start using things like A2DP, browse heavily (even on EDGE) and check email frequently the battery will drain at an increased rate. My usage tends to mirror the latter scenario and I find with a fully charged battery @7AM by 4PM I am in the 40% zone and by 6PM when I get home the phone is at 20% or less. As for the battery indicator, I experienced this for the first time today, had the phone on the wall charger all night and was surprised this morning to find the green indicator on but the battery level was showing around a 60% charge. After a soft reset it showed 100%. And I have hard reset after flashing the rom, I think it basically boils down to Samsung's rom not being as refined as those from HTC or even Palm, as evidenced by the better battery performance of the G4 rom. Lets hope they can rectify this with a future rom update.

I used the rom as used by Arramond. I have no idea if I lost any functionality as I only used the T-Mobile one for about an hour. http://www.modaco.com/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=914337
Guest Top_Cat Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 To hard reset hold the ansewr call and end call keys together, then while holding them down press the reset pin at the top. Easy ;)
Guest martinsa Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Hi Nyjumpman23, I did fully charge my phone when I got it... but I have never let it fully drain… often it is plugged in to my PC! So yesterday, I let it drain to nothing, and turn off on its own. Last night it charged fully... and today I will let it drain fully again… and see what happens! Also I noticed my battery this morning had already drained to about 80%... by the time I got to work it looked like it was back at 90%... and now it’s back to 80% again… I think the battery meter may just be very random on these devices! One thing I have noticed, that in the T-Mobile Rom, under Settings, System, Power, Power Save tab. “Enable power save mode” is not checked. Is this enabled on the other Samsung Roms? I’m not going to enable this today as I want to see how I go through the day… but might turn it on tomorrow. Cheers, Martin.
Guest lentini Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 A quick update to my original problem, I reflashed to HH3 yesterday and did a Hard-reset more or less straight away. Since then I've hardly used my phone but it's still at 70% (it was around 80% when I reflashed). I'm going to run my battery until it's dead and then do a full recharge. So far, looking good ;)

More of a battery calibration issue I've got the same T-mobile device here, and battery life was pretty erratic. Today it is going great. 1) Recharge from mains until light on top goes from red to green 2) use until the unit powers itself off - do not charge or use USB at all 3) when the phone complains about low battery... ignore it, wait until it powers itself off. 4) Soft reset... There is suddenly about 30-40 percent battery life still in it 5) repeat until the unit finally won't come on after a soft reset 6) Charge from mains until light on top goes from red to green I've been using it heavily... bt/wifi/gprs/3g and it seems much better today than it did yesterday.. not sure what light usage is as i can't stop playing with it ;)
