Guest Velnor Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 (edited) Even with my time machine backup, I'm not going to be the first one to try, but can any other brave souls post their results? PS. Funny, today I'm working from home, so I'm running vista on my MBP and osx on my 4211, talk about arse over tit Edited September 16, 2008 by Velnor
Guest Velnor Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Well no-one else seemed to have tried it, so I went ahead... BANG! and the install is gone. Kernel Panics when booting Using software update kills the install carried out according to Paul's 10.5.4 instructions. I'm now downloading the combo update... what would we do without time machine?!
Guest Velnor Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Same thing with the combo updater :-( people over on msi wind forums have reported success with the windosx image... in my experience, the kalyway install does not fly wrt the 10.5.5 release now to restore the machine (AGAIN!)... I'm not waiting for anything from this release (since I don't own an Air), so I'll happily live on 10.5.4 for now.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Oh no! Best not try this on my main machine then ;) P
Guest the_accidental Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 There's a fix over on the MSI wind forums. But basically the problem is AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement.kext . Here is relevant info http://netkas.org/?p=50
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Updated mine succesfully, just had to reinstall graphics ;) P
Guest Velnor Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Updated mine succesfully, just had to reinstall graphics ;) P Maybe problem is the 4211 hardware... You're using a wind now, aren't you? I'll hang fire just now, my machine is restored back to 10.5.4 nicely...
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 The hardware is identical... P
Guest dogweed Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Updated mine succesfully, just had to reinstall graphics ;) P Hi Paul - did you use the built in OS update or the standalone file Mac OS X 10.5.5 Update? I'd like to do this but don't want to hose my machine. I'd be using one of the standalone files... Did you remove an kexts before the update? Some posts have mixed info on this... Your guidance would be very welcome

PS. Funny, today I'm working from home, so I'm running vista on my MBP and osx on my 4211, talk about arse over tit I think that's great! vista on mbp and osx on 4211! Why you bothering to run vista ? Any way to make a windows server be recognised as a time machine? Or should I just used a local usb hard disk?
Guest Velnor Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 The hardware is identical... Hmmm, yeah, maybe my Dell 1500 card then... I think that's great! vista on mbp and osx on 4211! Why you bothering to run vista ? Any way to make a windows server be recognised as a time machine? Or should I just used a local usb hard disk? I like vista... I don't find it as shabby as the bad press gives it, lots of nice wee tweaks over aging xp, though maybe it's just my mbp that makes it shine. As for why I'm using windows at all - one word - excel... (I know there's a mac version, but imho it just doesn't cut it) I use my ubuntu box as a mac fileserver... Don't know about windows, but I bet there will be a way http://www.kremalicious.com/2008/06/ubuntu...machine-volume/
